Basically on my OH's system, the old CRT monitor won't turn off properly. Whenever Windows tells it to turn off, all it does is show a black screen with a green light, and make a curious high pitched noise - to top it off, it's still guzzling 50w of electric.

I'm guessing the monitor can be shoved into standby - it's just finding the right software to turn it off properly.

Monitor is a Hansol 710D.

My OH is sometimes forgetful, and I come back to see the room lit up by the monitor...on top of the electricity usage, I worry about screen burn too.

Am I asking the impossible? :o

Get one of the "intelligent" mains extensions . You plug the PC into the master socket & when the PC powers down it switches of the slave sockets. I use one to kill the power to my speakers, Watercooling, printer etc :)
