I have decided my old £50 sound system finally needs replacing after 3 years and I have been looking at the Z-5500's, but the price has crept up from about ~170 to 250 since last year (damn credit crunch).

So if I am to spend about 250 quid on a decent surround sound system would i be better off in getting an amp and surround sound system for TV which seem to be better value. or the Z-5500's which seem a bit over priced now but are for pc's?

Also do i need some different cables to connect to amps?

Thanks

EDIT: i looked up the cable, i just need: 3.5mm Jack to 2 x RCA which are about 1.50 each so only £5 for 3 of them...

Yeah, I would suggest getting an amp and a speaker system. In truth with £250 you could get some great stereo speakers with 2 channel amp.
