Alright, my friend that I work with needs a new computer his current one is 10 years old, he's not a gamer at all but is looking for the fastest and most responsive PC we can find for as cheap as possible, obviously trust worthy components that are great for budget builds. Also he wants compact so basically as small as possible the better.

No monitor/peripherals or windows needed.

This is what I've come up with at the moment, could we get cheaper? or better recommendations on choices? Thanks

There is an internal 5.25" bay, accessible by removing the side panels and then pressing the clips to detach the front panel. Without a GPU, having an internal optical drive would be fine, but obviously not ideal if you use the optical drive daily or quite often because of the steps necessary to access it.

Not sure its even usable inside the case like that (the Phenom has the cage as a left over from the Prodigy which it is based upon).

There would need to be room inside the case for the tray to open/close, be able to place a disk in the tray and have the mounting holes line up with the cage and drive.
 
Sacrificed the i5 for bigger SSD, lower latency RAM, and spare cash, plus went very small. A decent overclock should see it snappy enough for regular use though I reckon.

The RAM is compatible, but why spend so much on slower speed RAM (even tho you are limited to 1600Mhz by the chipset it will downclock the RAM).

Again there are higher quality PSUs available.

The Retail CPU comes with a cooler but also a 3yr warranty.

My idea is to keep everything @ stock as he doesn't need any overclocking, thought it'll be best to get the exact top speed as the motherboard will allow to utilize every bit of performance, could using higher Mhz memory than the motherboard is capable cause problems? Also yes but this PSU is semi modular as its a tiny case with not much cable management I thought less cables more space for air to circulate as its a small case and all.

Yeah there is room, I've done two Phenom builds and placed optical drives in them (and used them with front panel off no problem). It obviously won't open with the front panel on as there is no slot on the front panel. But the mounting holes are far back enough to allow the front panel to close comfortably with optical drive inserted.
