Hi there, could I have a spec for £600-£800 please.

My mate's mate needs a CPU, motherboard, heatsink/fan, memory, graphics card (must be able to play all games at decent resolution and speed) PSU and a nice case.

thanks a lot for any suggestions,
meaz

what will your mate use the machine for?

what resolution is decent to you? 1024 x 768 , 1280 x 1024?

will he be overclocking?

does it have to be amd 64? am2? or Intel core duo?

Please confirm the above to help us spec a "bang for buck" pc for ya mate :)

he won't be overclocking.

1280 x 1024

and he will be gaming and wants all games to run in full detail. The system needs to have outstanding graphics.

it doesnt matter on the socket type...he just wants the fastest gaming machine he can get for that money.

thanks

Taking advantage of the price-drops on the X2 chips I'd probably suggest something like this, if you want a nicer case then your mate would need to get a cheaper graphics card and/or CPU.

I chose that gpu because it will play anything you throw at it at that res I believe...

Also I chose a faster cpu as you said you will not be overclocking...

I would look into getting a gigabyte mobo tho just incase you change your mind about overclocking but more importantly you will still be within your budget..

Latest machine, latest tech and its within your budget...Keep you busy for a while :D

That freezer 64 pro doesn't fit socket 775 does it? I'd also go for something a bit nippier than a 7600 GS. The likes of Oblivion would make that card grind to a halt, lol. :p No point in getting an E6600 and having such a severely gpu-bottlenecked system IMHO.

the answer is in the clue...

Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940) (FG-000-AR)

:p

a 7600 512mb GS would handle Oblivion the recommended specs are 6800 or higher and 1gb RAM..the card is value for money

I doubt I cannot be 100% tho that the GPU would bottleneck the system

I don't really know what you're talking about with the cpu cooler mate. Are you agreeing or disagreeing with me?

The OP said he wants outstanding graphics and speed, and you simply won't get that from a 7600GS. Take a look at the benchmarks - Oblivion maxed out at 1280x1024 gives you about 10 fps. The x1800xt will fit into the budget easily and wipe the floor with the 7600. :)

The Freezer Pro 64 does NOT work on LGA775 motherboards .
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940)

Maybe you're confusing 754 for LGA775?. Also the X1800XT will be much better than the 7600gs, the onboard ram doesnt always matter! fenderbass' spec looks cool

EDIT: The Freezer 7 does work with LGA775 though :)
