I am looking to upgrade my current pc. Maybe a quad/6-core processor and 8gb ram/4gb 1666mhz ram?

AMD X2 Phenom 550
Crucial 4GB DDR3 1333mhz Ram
ATI Radeon HD 4870 1GB
Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P
Corsair 650W PSU

Don't really play any graphics intensive games so not too keen on a graphics upgrade. Main games are FM2012 and League of legends or that sort of games. Want PC to be a bit faster loading things and multi-tasking.

Something around £200 would be nice.

Thanks

Sounds like a good idea but there would be a lot of effort re-installing everything?

Currently in my final year of uni so don't really wanna spend time re-installing things but if thats the best option then I might give it a shot.

I do have an after cooler, Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.

Don't suggest to upgrade the ram or anything then?

Thanks for fast reply guys

If you want to use it to boot from, just from a personal perspective, I would do a reinstall. Maybe do it over xmas?

Have more RAM will only benefit you if you use that much, as for speeds it can help when OC'ing but for the best umph the above will really help!

you could leave everything currently on your hard disk as is, reinstall windows on the ssd and the main programs you use that could do with loading faster. everything else you could just leave on the hard disk.

I'm not an expert on this so will leave someone who knows what they're talking about give you the exact instructions.

will put you over budget more than the suggested spec is already but

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-112-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517 weekend only deal, 16gb not really needed but at that price hard to pass up.

Thanks guy.

Yeah Fowler i was going to leave most things on the hard disk I have now and install just the main programs on the SSD.

Just a question if I do get the SSD, how do I install windows on it, while having windows on my old hard drive? (I don't want to reformat my hard drive). Also could you point me to some sites that overclock the 955 which is stable?

Cheers for the recommendations guys

You should read through this (its a bit long) and hopefully you will get some tips - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18108943

There are guides here - http://www.overclock.net/t/525113/phenom-ii-overclocking-guide - http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2009/05/11/overclocking-amd-s-phenom-ii-x3-720-be/1

You got essentially two methods of overclocking available to you, increase the CPU multiplier and/or the FSB, you will need to test for stability as you go and also set increase the vcore a bit at a time as you get higher.

Thanks

How about installing windows of new SSD while old hard drive has windows already? I've already partitioned the windows into 2 parts, one with windows, one with data.

So do I plug in SSD only, install windows on that, then later reconnect my old HDD and reformat the partition with windows only to remove windows 7 from the old HDD?
