We use doro's at work and they breakup and and have poor sound quality at less than 100m thought our warehouse but my binatone 950 actions work at well over twice the range through our metal building and have much better sound quailty their also good car to car were range is normaly reduced due to faraday cage efect you get in cars, as for outdoors the most ive used them over is about 2km in a built up area but that was the limit. On the box they claim 10km over perfect conditons Ie hill top to hill top with clear line of site so dont believe the hype the pmr radio makers claim that said i have no doubt that these will perform that well hill to hill they also came out best in all the reviews I could find which is why I got them unless you want to pay extra for some intek 5050 (can be modded to 4watts cut one wire in batt compartment) or something inbetween like motorola g8's sorry not sure of the number on the last one may be g7 or g9 ??

The Binatone Action 950 does look good - pretty cheap too. Does it come with a single charger or one per handset?

950 have a double charger base holds both also batteries with typical 10%tx10%rx80%standby use last a few days between charges.
The vibrate alert is very handy at work as its a shop and dont want loud beeping anoying the customers but I mainly use them car to car which they are excelent at what will you be using them for.

I have the Intek MT-5050 but they cost £80 each.

Now the bonus with these is that they are not just PMR446 walkies. If you take out the battery, you will discover 3-wires. If you cut all three wires, your walkie will become a 4-watt and you unlock the extra channels. The 4-watt lets you broadcast at greater distances.

However, its against the law to do this in the UK as you need a license for non PMR446. ;)

You can change the aerial to make the walkie go that extra few miles and works better for the extra channels.

The Intek MT-5050 does look interesting - but I don't have the budget for a pair of them! Use will just be general outdoor activities, field work and camping.

The Motorola T7 or T8 range are fantastic. I have also got the T7 and they are pretty darn good for outside use.

Spent a bit of time looking around, think I'm going to go for the Action 950. It's got lots of good reviews and can be had for just £36.54 for a pair. Well, assuming the site I'm looking at is actually selling a pair! It doesn't say so, the picture is of two but says "Images are for illustration purposes only. Actual product may differ from images shown."

Would this ever be sold on its own?

Been playing with them today - pretty good. In a urban environment, we could talk okay, inside, between two houses 560m apart as the crow flies according to gmaps-pedometer. That was with us on the 'right' sides of the two houses. There was a bit of a hill between, no line of sight.
