I'm looking for a pair of cheapish trainer type shoes for when I'm going to be walking a lot. I'd like to spend less than £50, but if £20 will do it then that's even better.

I'd like to walk to work (an hour) some days, however it wears my nice shoes, and my feet get sore.

I was about to order from m and m direct and notice they've got some cheap Karrimor walking type trainers.

Something like this.

Anyone able to comment if that's the type of thing I should be after, or if it's too cheap/nasty or if it's a bad brand?

I think you are spending not much money as compare to your requirements.Increase your spending after that you will definitely get the right product as per your requirements.

Reebok DMX, you will thank me.
I've completed 8 marathons, over 100 half marathons and countless shorter runs while running on carpet.
Of course you could try 'Barefoot' walking.

spend more and don't buy online, go to a shop and get something that fits properly. Don't go out to buy a specific brand or model as everyone will have a slightly different shape go try on loads and pick the ones that fit best regardless of brand colour etc!

Asics gel. Technically they're running shoes, but they're very comfy.

Absolutely agree 100% here.

I suffer terribly with my back when I walk a distance but wearing Asics and my back is absolutely fine. Not the greatest looking trainers in the world but do the job! :D

This as well - my missus bought some Asics because I had such good results with my pair, she had terrible pain because of the shape of her foot, ended up with some good quality Nike.

Good sports shops have gizmos to check your foot/shape etc

I went an ordered the Karrimor ones, because I was putting an order in any way the postage is effectively free on them, so I can try them and return them at no cost. I ordered before the responses, because I ran out of time to decide.

I'm a bit reluctant to spend a chunk of money until I know that I'll actually put them to good use, and I know what I need. So the £70+ ones seem expensive for what I need at the moment. Especially as it'd be a stab in the dark what my requirements really are.

Thanks for the responses!

I need to do some form of exercise, I do a bit on my cycling machine, but I have health issues that mean it's not always good for me to do, while walking is probably easier.

If the cheap Karrimors are ok then I'll keep them for a while and then find a shop in Glasgow to go and get decent ones. If not I'll return them and see if I can find something relatively inexpensive.

I wear Sketchers just now. They're comfy but not when I walk for a while in them, and the soles aren't very hard wearing, the pair I have on today are 6 months old and I've worn some parts of the sole smooth already.

They're looking like a substitute if the ones I've ordered aren't up to scratch.. £45 and free delivery makes them inexpensive enough that if I replace them later they're not so much of a loss.

Karrimor Are cheap rubbish which will not last long. The brand is owned by the sports direct group. so they put artificially large rrps on their products to make them seem better value.

I'd guessed that I wasn't getting a real bargain :) If they do the job but don't last long then I can live with that.... I'm starting to think I should send them back unless they feel very comfortable and are a very good fit.

They get good reviews on Amazon...

We did try to suggest that you buy the type of shoe that long distance runners use and you could have got a very decent pair for £45 - http://www.bournesports.com/running/mens-shoes/?subcats=Y&features_hash=V68.V40.P23

Not sure why you're using the past tense... The only reason I took the Karrimors is because I have an order coming from M&M Direct anyway, so it costs literally nothing to add them to the order, and at least one item is going back, so there's no cost to send them back either.

I'm still very much undecided.
