A resignation letter if you please. :)

Only a month to go and I would love to leave it all open should things not work out.

Dear PERSONNEL MANAGER,

Please accept this as formal notice of my resignation from the position of (JOB TITLE) at (COMPANY NAME, LOCATION) with effect from (DATE)

In accordance with my contract of employment ( XYZ weeks notice) I am happy to continue to work until (DATE)

While I believe that I am moving for good reasons, I am sorry to leave, and I thank you for your support during my time with (COMPANY) which I have found both enjoyable and fulfilling.

Yours Sincerely

NAME

Guess its a little early for the funny/offensive ones? :)

I just want to take the edge off something which is affecting me more than it really should...

I was thinking:

Dear Boss,
Than you for letting me be a slave and doing the work of 5 people with less pay than the receptionist. I sincerely enjoyed the time I spent here being the "buck" for all the incompetant people and enjoy picking up the pieces when they left.

I have also enjoyed being unable to call on any form of support for systems I am not authorised to administer, but am expected to anyway and also enjoy the blame that goes with that.

I would like to take this oppertunity to also thank your daughter for the excellent 'Christmas present' which has made my stay here very enjoyable. I might comment that the boardroom table is of excellent build quality and comfortably takes the weight of two adults.

Anyway I digress. I would appreciate it if we could forgo the contractual obligation of notice period and you would do me the honour of putting me on gardening leave for the duration.

I will gladly assist attempts to recruit a new person, however, you may want to make the job offer a bit more attractive than peasant or slave as I believe that slaves don't expect to get paid.

Yours sincerely

Of course he will, its illegal to give a bad one! :)

Not quite, a false reference leaves you open to being sued for libel (if printed) or slander (if spoken) but if you are entirely truthful e.g. "Mr X didn't show up for work on time once and couldn't complete a single job" which you then back up with evidence as/when required you have a defence. Statements that are based on opinion and therefore subjective are more difficult to prove than facts of attendence etc.

Of course it is usually less trouble to simply say "Mr X worked here between date and date" because it doesn't leave you open to any form of action, you have been entirely truthful and it is up to the party requesting the reference to read between the lines.

Mejinks, I like the letter but you might want to be careful that your letter doesn't leave you open to any form of legal action, I'm not sure what your company policy is on staff 'assignations' within company property (dunno if the bosses daughter works there to complicate issues) but be very careful about what you commit to a permanent record. :)

+1. BE CAREFUL regardless of how much you loathe them. You will do yourself no favours when your boss turns round and shafts you for an abusive or libellious resignation letter.

Just destroy a toilet on your last day with the mother of all turds :D find that's my favourite way of showing disdain.

Good luck

I chose to keep it formal and friendly. I thought he was going to cry. Good luck to them in finding someone willing to put up with as much as I have.

In case anyon is interested, although the events are true, I no longer even speak to his daughter and it was last year. Honest. ;)
