Spec me!

Are women (other than those who shop in Asda) actually attracted to a guy based on what car they drive?

No. None of the girls I know are in the slightest bit bothered what a guy drives as long as its not ropey. Its purely a guy thing to think girls actually care what we drive let alone allow themselves to be attracted by it. Car tarts after your money excepted.

Although less in this country than in developing nations, a car is a status symbol. I'm sick of my Clio which just says "well done, you have a car". So as well as a pussy magnet, it just generally needs to say something more, ie turning up to my uni reunion a year after I graduated in a Jag says much more than turning up in a Clio/Corsa/Focus/etc like everyone else.

With respect you have 3k not 30k. A 2 grand 3 Series does not scream success from the rooftops. Frankly I find your approach to buying cars very odd. You seem to want your car to lie for you, if you see what I mean.

The girls you know, so... a small sample of the available offering ;)

Sounds like a higher quality than the rest of the offering if you know girls who will sleep with you based on your car, let alone a 2 grand 3 Series or similar. They must be thrilling conversationalists :p

I do not know girls who would sleep with me based on my car, and given the choice I would not. I happen to have a little more integrity than that ;)

Some of my comments were made in jest. My point was that people are judgemental, and one of the things they might take into consideration is what you drive. A blanket "No woman will give a toss what you drive" is simply in-accurate.

I dont think that its true that women do not care. While all worthwhile women will not care about it being flash as such, they would not want to be driven round in something embarrassing such as a studenty car, or a car modified with aftermarket parts or covered in rust or a silly colour etc.

I think Emily would be a slightly embarrassed if i drove something really small like a Clio for example and her friends and work colleagues saw me collecting her from somewhere, so i do understand the OP's issue with it.

Ok so I guess I proved myself wrong

Went out for a friends birthday this evening and gave some of the girls a lift into town. From the fuss they made about my 'really posh car with a personal plate' you'd be forgiven for thinking I had just picked them up in a Bentley or something rather than an old shape 5 Series.

I guess its yet another thing about women we guys will never understand
