A car! :o

Healing is going to take longer than I expected so will primarily be using a car for the next 6 months!
So I want to take spend as little out of my bike fund as possible! so budget is £2-2.5k
I wont be doing massive miles in it, trip to work is 20 miles a day and just general running about.
I really like the Fiat Coupe :D but I bet that wont be recommended here?
What about 2001 VW Golf/Polo GTI's?
I would love anything that will do 60 in under 10 seconds :p otherwise I will go mad seeing as I cant ride yet!

So you experienced people of Motors what do you recommend :)

Haha :D cant still wont work with my arm :(

Anything that fun is going to be expensive, even large engined hot hatches.

Looking at PH clasif. It should be possible to get a Coupé with a full service history in budget and under 100,000 miles, maybe even with a reasonably recent cam belt service. You're just looking at 1998 & earlier, but I think this will be better than a lunar 2000 model. Just look for corrosion on the sills and inner arches. This would be as cheap to run as the Coupé could get.

Something with a 2.0L VTEC could provide the thrills, anything in budget? I know the S2000 is still too expensive.

Yea I thought as much, anything fun that will last a year? :p
How likely are engine probs with the cheap older quick cars?

The expensive to run stuff aside anything just reliable to recommend for around £2k?
2001 Golf/polo GTI's a not recommended then?

French is fine just I find them boring :D normal car I use is a 106 and hate how it always feels like it needs another gear!
Prefere the look of the 306 out of those 3, and not sure on the MR2 :p they all look like they have been abused.

If it's just a run around for a while why get anything too flash? Why not get something like a mk1/2 mx5 if it's going to be for a short while? If you are going to keep it long term then of course you may want something more comfy. But you'll be back on your bike in 6 months no?

Ultimately I would like to keep a car too, in 6 months I should be back to 80% of my transport will be by bike and would be useful having a car to use too.

Or my other option is to Buy a nice car for £5k that I would keep for a few years and get saving for a track bike for next summer and just keep my SV.

Dont know what to do so many options, but with the danger of biking with the rod in my leg not sure what to do for the next year at least.

Not a bad shout at all. Can't you get one of the rev 5 (this wasvthe last one they did?) for decent money? 2.2 Vtec lump should provide decent fun and cruise around comfortably. The consensus is to avoid the 4 wheel steering system is it not?

Also its definately worth looking at the Civic Vti-S saloons, cheaper than the hatchback variant and thus don't command a premium. Search the forums for pics of Gaijins one, looks mint :).

PS. Seeings as you live close to me I don't mind showing you what the wee MR2 can do ;)

In the end I bought a......

Mk1 1.8i MX-5 :D

And im loving it :D i randomally came across howards thread on his MX-5 (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17991971&page=1) and was hooked, so I started looking around, I really wanted a british racing green with Tan interior but saw this one and was in great condition compared to other I had looked at, so today I picked it up :)
Not to sure on the alloys yet, they had to have the worlds supply of weights to balance them :/
Will take some better pics tomorrow.
