Need a monitor, cpu, ram & mobo. Have everything else including a Thermalright True heatsink, so oem cpu will be fine. Mainly use it for gaming, dont do any coding/photoshop. Currently have a 5850 so after a 24"+ monitor. The option to crossfire on the mobo would be nice but not required. Budget is £700 max. Thanks

For £700 you could get the below system it comes with crossfire aswell and looks really good i think :D.

£239.99

BenQ V2410 Eco 24" Widescreen LED Monitor
£179.99

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
£152.99

OCZ Obsidian 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600Mhz Triple Channel Kit (OCZ3OB1600LV6GK)

You said its mainly for gaming and that you won't do any coding or stuff like that on it so an AM3 rig will do just fine. Here's a good spec for a lot less than what you have.Save the other 150 quid for something else or maybe upgrade one of your other components(case,HDD,cooler etc.).

You probably get one the following RAM sets instead:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-224-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1516

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-154-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-154-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

This will reduce the cost of the build by £20.

There is also this cheaper Asus motherboard which does symmetrical Crossfire too:

Hence for a slight increase on the £700 budget the OP could get another HD5850 1GB if they get one for around £200 to £220.

The last two RAM sets I listed are 1600MHZ ones. The Asus P7P55D-E is a great motherboard but it only supports asymmetrical Crossfire according to Asus:

The Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 does do symmetrical Crossfire and SLI though and is cheaper than the Asus motherboard:

So for what i want it for. AMD will be a better option than i5/i7?
I do like the idea of getting another 5850 but would 2 of them not be slowed down on an am3 setup? Would i need to have the same brand of 5850? I have the xfx one so would i need another xfx or does it not matter? If so i could opt for something like this

Choose that ram since the other wasnt in stock

If its gaming get an AM3 setup and another 5850.AM3 will offer the same performance as an i5/i7 setup in games and in some cases it will surpass it.You can xfire 2 different branded HD5850s as long as they are both operating at the same clock or you overclock the second one to match the first otherwise the higher clocked one will have its speeds reduced to match the second one. Also when you choose a RAM kit you have to take into consideration some things...like timings.Lower timings are vital in an AM3 based setup especially when the CPU is a PhII which really shines with low timings(C7 for 1333Mhz and C8 for 1600Mhz).I also suggested a more expensive mobo(Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4) because I thought you can benefit from a better chipset that offfers X16-X16 which could make a big difference in games that require high bandwidth. An example would be Flight Simulator X.Also that mobo has USB 3.0 and SATA 3 which makes it more future proof.A setup like that will take you about 20 quid above your budget.

Why would you need a voltage tweak?Even if you overclock them on stock voltage they will kill everything you throw at them when paired with a high clocked PhII 955.But if you want to get insane speeds out of them....yeah you could do that but be careful not to do something wrong because some brands of HD5850 don't like to have their BIOS flashed.

Good point, doubt ill need the voltage tweak. So the ram i choose will be ok, says its C8
Will the motherboard support 1600 ram? it says 4x DDR3 DIMM 1866(OC) / 1333 / 1066 MHz, nothing about 1600 :s
