a 3D Modelling/Rendering Computer!

Hiya people, needing your help...

As of now until around september next year i will be using a pants Acer Aspire One AX3300 Compact PC, which is absolutely horrible for rendering my projects especially in 3Ds Max at present. (Studying Games Development at College )

I have applied for university looking to get into the same thing, and obviously will apply for the student loan, leaving me some monies for a new PC for Rendering :)

I would like a cooled system, with probably an oc'ed cpu 3.5ghz+ i think, not knowing much is quite hard :).

6/8GB RAM - ample enough for rendering?

Single GPU - 6870??

Fans :D

Case :D

hopefully an SSD for booting up and for 3Ds Max, or would it not make a difference? 64/128GB

1 or 2TB HDD for render storage

mobo? - recommendations for this type of system, not sure what i can go for, maybe usb 3.0? or would that not make much difference?

already got keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, the lot.

although will probably get a new mouse when i get this computer built when i get my loan :)

If you need any other information for my possible spec, give us a buzz, and till then....cheers for any information and builds in advance.

EDIT:

BUDGET: Around £800-900

case could be much improved,
i specced the hybrid drive as it offers more Gb per pound and similar performance to a normal ssd
you dont have to have the 6870, specially at 200 quid nearly, if you changed to say a GTX460 you'd still get great performance in games + cuda cores work better with 3ds max ( i believe )

dont know if you have O/S or not, but if you have i would go for this as the gfx is ok but the processor would help a great deal (more if you O/C) with 3ds max and £9.00 over budget. You could get rid of the case and upgrade the 1tb to 2tb.

Can I just confirm that you need a new system in September 2011 (ie 10 months in the future)?

If so, then anything we tell you now will be woefully out of date by the time you need to purchase. By September 2011, AMD Bulldozer and Intel Sandy Bridge (both mainstream and enthusiast) will be available and should beat all current tech in CPU heavy apps like what you will be using it for. Best bet is to post up the same thread two week before you are ready to buy and we can give you a load of options that will work well for your needs, using current gen tech.

The processor and motherboard will not match. To go with such a configuration you would either need to roll back to a LG1156 compatible motherboard or get an i7 from the 900 series.

VAT will be 20% from Jan onwards....

i would say come back around july august time and then we can restart this process. I would keep ghosting the forums anyways as you can pick up a few more posts and get yourself free delivery or access to the mm.

(Correct me if i am wrong.)

sorry for wasting your time :)

There has been no waste of time as we all benefit from these discussions and someone who might have similar needs as yours with a more immediate outcome may use this build.
