So, my 4890 is dying, its struggling to run games now, its crashing out at a modest 80-C.

I've managed to secure £225 for an Antec PSU (Modular £70) and the rest on a GPU.

Now, I'm not sure what to get, and before you ask, NO, I cannot possibly get any more cash, this is really pushing it.

would probably suggest the msi 460 its just inside your price bracket and a freind just got 1 and loves it to bits

the other option would be a 5850 if you would rather go ati.

even though ive been an ati man for years, the way my mate raves about his 460, and the reviews you see of them, id shoot for the nvidia option.

I was thinking that one if I am honest. Thing is, I saw the new ATI 6850's for £150 and wondered if they were better?

I know this is the killjoy option but take the card out, dismantle the fan and remove the dust build up as this is exactly what this sounds like. Takes about 10 minutes and worth a try. Still take the advice and save up to get the best bang for buck upgrade when you're ready so you can save up an extra few quid if needed :).

Edit: Ignore me, I didn't read your post properly :o. I'd still check it for a dust build up but yeah, GTX 460 or 6850 would be a nice choice.

just messaged my mate and its the same 460 that frame is buying that my mate has, hes already clocked it higher @ 880/1100 and he says there is plenty more so id agreee with frame and suggest either this or the msi either would be good, seem to have high oc headroom, so it would come down to which company you prefere or if you prefere the look of 1 over the other, but up to you.

I have, done it too many times, it used to run upto 120-C in games, so It's clean now, with fresh TIM on. No excuse, so might aswell get a new PSU while I'm at it.

Been there, toasty ankles :D.

Shame it's going but a good reason to upgrade and get a decent boost at the same time. Good luck :).

So have you decided or still split between the 6850 and GTX 460?.

Undecided, It's a difficult choice, I have to stick with it for at least another year

Just get stuck into a lot of reviews. Search for the 6850 though as that came later than the GTX 460s so most of the reviews of this will include the GTX 460 to compare. I know it's common sense but I'm in that mood to point out the obvious :D.
