Hi all!

Well that time has come, it's new phone time! Walked into O2 to see when I could upgrade and I can do it now, So i was wondering what phone/package you guys think would be the best? I'm pretty useless when it comes to picking phones!

I would like the i-Phone 4, But its on a 24 month contract and they want a 139£ one off payment!

Are the Blackberry's any good? Also I quite like the look of the HTC phones! There's also the Galaxy S ?

Please, can anybody help!

Josh

Your highest end Android Phones are: HTC Desire HD, HTC Desire Z and the Samsung Galaxy S. Out of those I would probably recommend the Desire Z as it has a slide out keyboard. A high end Android can do anything a Blackberry can do really, not quite as easily or as nicely perhaps though. If you have a really high budget I think I would recommend the Desire Z. I don't have any of these phones however. :p

Well after a conversation with O2, I've managed to lower my monthly bill by 10£ But I will only have the Choice between 3 phones.

HTC/HD7 - I like the look of this!
Galaxy S - This also looks interesting!
Iphone 3gs 8/gb - Is this phone starting to be outdated?

Could anybody with either of these phones comment on the Pro's and Cons?

many thanks,

Josh

Both of those phones are much better than the Iphone 3GS. I'd personally go with the Galaxy S after trying both of them. Haven't used the HD7.

The Galaxy S is running Android, better screen, higher res, faster cpu, more ram, better camera. I wouldn't consider the 3GS now :)

Here's my take (Note: I haven't used the Samsung after its 2.2 update)

Easy to use multimedia phone = HD7
Pocket computer to play around with = SGS
If you think the HD7 will be too big = 3GS

HTC HD7
Pros - The best 'simple to use' smartphone out the three, very intuitive OS. The massive 4.3" screen is great for internet browsing/watching films/reading books. Great Windows 7/Zune integration (you can actually play hi kbps HD wmvs on this phone :D)
Cons - Poor battery life, you'll need a spare battery but it's small enough to keep in your wallet. Limited functionality from WP7, although it should get a series of updates over the next few months.

Galaxy S
Pros - The best hardware here, sAMOLED screen, fast SoC etc. Great if you like playing around with hardware/software. (Hello stock Android 2.3!)
Cons - ropey GPS, usual glossy plastic Samsung feel. If you don't like messing around... the stock touchwizUI isn't quite up to iOS/WP7 standards.

Iphone 3gs 8/gb
Pros - Still a good all rounder, solid OS with decent functionality (somewhere between WP7 and Android) It could be an option if your planning on keeping it for 2+ years.
Cons - Yep, it's well and truly outdated....

Is the hd7 that good?

Yeah defiantly! It's (almost) the large screen iPhone I hoped Apple would've made by now :) The Omnia 7 would be a slightly better choice but it's not on o2?

I'd be surprised if it had many video codecs.

Prepare to be surprised! The WP7 snapdragon drivers are second to none... (the player is basic but it's the only phone I've used that fully utilises the hardware acceleration)

As quoted from GSM Arena:

The HTC HD7 has no AVI or DivX/XviD support, just MP4 and WMV. However, the Zune software on your computer will automatically convert unsupported video files to .WMV (up to WVGA res). You can watch those formats on the HD7, it’s just that the transfer to the device can take quite a while (depending on your computer configuration).
