Spec Me

I could probably do a late C5 A6 looking at prices.

What about an E-Class any horror stories?? Prob look for manual Diesel (rare by the looks of things)

Bigger than the A4 would be a bonus.

The Accord is much bigger than an A4, the audi has a tiny boot for an estate with an awkward opening.

The circa 2004, slab backed Accord estate has a huge load area

What about the interior, specifically the rear leg room.

Whilst I am far from a giant I have to put the seat slightly further forward than is ideal in the A4 when the twins are in the back. I suppose when they switch to front facing seats it will be less of an issue.

I've not been in the back of one unfortunately

In general size terms though I'd put the Accord alongside the Mondeo, the A4 is far, far closer to focus/A3 size regardless of where people try to position it - so I'd be hopeful it's better.

What is rear space like in the E60 tourer?

My ideal world is to be able to get the twins in kiddie seats in the back with a small docile dog in the middle and our crap in the boot! I wish to avoid a roof box and having to compromise driving position. The A4 boot is not a million miles away from being big enough so I don't need tanker capacity in there.

Twins are more expensive that I first thought so the budget it back down to £3-£4k

Puts be back to an E39 tourer or the C5 A6 Avant.
Heart says E39 (most likely 530i), head says A6 (most likely a dag dag).

Not a great deal of choice around in either of these motors!

Think you'll have more choice (of decent cars at least) with the A6 tbh. If you're looking at them then avoid the 1.8t as it feels really quite underpowered.

I'd imagine you'll have a better choice of e39 if you're ok with an SE Touring

I don't think I would go for it, but is the 1.8t really that bad? It's barely any heavier than the A4. Although it looks like the 1.8t is only available in 150bhp trim in the A6 (the A4 we have is 190bhp).

You need to drive one, I haven't for some time but used to be particularly disappointed with them.

Don't discount the passat, usefully bigger than the A4 in the back

Well

After looking at E39's, A4's, E61's and a multitude of A6's including 2.5tdi Quattro's, 1.9tdi's, 3.0 V6's I've bought a 2005 1.9tdi Final Edition A6

1 Private owner from new with full service history (due a cam belt). Prev owner traded it for a brand new A6 at Audi MK last October, it went through auction to a part-time dealer who's been ill and only just advertised it. 139k miles but the interior doesn't show it and it drives very well for the age/miles.

Typical FE spec having Leather, Nav, CD Changer, Bose and Cruise.
All filters, pads etc are gen audi which is a nice sign and it's shod with 4 x BF Goodrich g-Grips with about 5mm on them and the spare has never been used.

Couple of minor bits to sort but nothing that would irritate people without OCD like me! lol

They're a very odd make to chose for a road tyre.

If it's a m+s type tyre it's kind of....even odder as why would you bother on a boggo A6?
