Never thought I'd need a spec me thread :D

Just sold my Focus ST225. Have a max of around £8k to spend.

Been to look at a MK2.5 Octavia vRS, walked away because it had a poor paint repair. Also went to have a look at an Astra VXR today but again, walked away because there were 4 or 5 spots that were bubbling under the paint.

Requirements are few, although 200+bhp would be nice, less than 80k on the clock too. I did like the Recaro seats and Xenon headlights in the focus, so although preferable, not essential.

3/5 door does not matter, nor does economy too much as I was used to the Focus liking a drink.

Hit me :)

Why did you get rid of the Focus?

Just didn't gel with it.

I'd had it nearly 2 years, considered selling back in March but decided to keep it and take it to Stage 1 to see if it engaged me any more but it just didn't.

I was offered good money for it which left me with minimal depreciation over the time I've owned it so took the opportunity to let it go.

Fair enough - what exactly didn't do it for you?

I ask because from the requirements you've given, it seems to tick the boxes so there must be something else you want from a car!

Do you need a hatchback? Consider a 2 seater?

3 doors is about as much of a compromise as I can make. Still need the rear seats for the kids on occasion.

Don't know in all honesty. Just didn't make me 'happy' some how. It was the first one I viewed and bought it there and then, got it home and found a couple of issues so it wasn't the best start - maybe that has something to do with it.

How much did you get for your ST? :p I'm trying to shift mine now and I'll be in the exact same boat as you in terms of requirements with a similar budget and no idea what to buy.
The only cars I can think of from looking myself are:
Nissan 350z
Leon Cupra the K1 turbo is probably the most modifiable hot hatch on the market with that turbo. A guy I worked with had a stage 2 map and a few basic mods running 370bhp. Left my ST like I was standing still.
Mazda 3 MPS

Not 100% clued up on M3's to be honest, some tidy looking ones for around that money but I'd have to do some reading up on them.

Mazda 3 MPS is a good shout although it would be a PFL which is £500 tax a year :D

I've looked at Imprezas, doesn't look like 8k would get a very good STi, although could get a tidy WRX for 8k or less.

Out of Evo/Impreza I'd prefer the latter :p

I know prices have gone a bit crazy recently but I paid just over 8k for my 05 STi widetrack in May. I think some places are asking 10k for an equivalent car now.

Don't spend 8k on a WRX. I loved mine but the STi is so much better. Stick with the EJ20, the 2.5 is known for having reliability issues.

Depends if you can handle the interior on an old Impreza compared to something more modern. I don't mind either the early new age or revised Hawkeye interior but it's one of the things I hear quite a lot of people comment on. It is a cheapish Jap car after all.
