Spec my brother please!

Hey all, my brother has finally decided his old XP2200 w/ GF2 system isn't quite up to par (Ok, he bought Oblivion and thought he could run it!)

So we're now looking for something that'll do the trick for oblivion/fm2007 etc...

Was thinking about athlon x2, 2gb ram, decentish gfx (Maybe high end last gen instead of dx10 as he's not going to be playing many more things than oblivion & fm etc..)

Ideal budget ceiling is around £300

What bits does he need? Case, PSU, monitor, keyboard, hard disks, optical drives, etc.?

He's ok on Monitor, dvd-rw, keyboard and mouse

So:

Motherboard
Cpu
Hard drive (under or at 120gb should be fine)
Case
PSU
Graphics Card
Possible Card reader (optional!)

This will work well. It'll run Oblivion at low-to-medium settings and should be a huge improvement over his current system.

As BillytheImpaler suggested! Great choice(though he might wanna save up for a month and get a Nvidia 8800 GT or you can do that later, no problem)

Mind you that you have to go and overclock that machine to around 3Ghz which should be REALLY easy. You can probably get far more out of it.

Thanks billy, yeah, that looks a pretty nice setup, he'll be on pretty low-res anyways as he only has a 15" TFT.

Hmm, much difference between a x1950xt and 3850 pro? Could always get a 3850 as "payment" and dump my x1950xt in his hehe

A 3850 Pro should be a lot faster. maybe by about 50%, especially in shader-intensive games like most today are.
