First up, he does NOT need monitor, mouse, keyboard, DVD drive, or windows.

He does need, CPU, MB, RAM, GPU, hard drive.

I was thinking of something like:

E2160
2GB Geil ram
Asrock Motherboard
GPU I am not sure on, either an 8600GT or a X1950 pro read note below.
Hard drive, some 250GB Sata drive.

He will be using it for the basics, making the odd DVD from AVI's, internet and whatever, and the odd game (say source, and c&c3). So why the 8600? because he wants to maybe play games later on that will support Dx10, and doesnt really care about full details...

Anyone have any thoughts?

Apparently he has a PSU and case already picked out/already has one.

So the 400 is for just the rest of the stuff. If he can get away with spending less, that is great though, he isn't really that bothered on a "killer system" just wants to replace the 512MB of ram, and slightly overclocked barton 2600 that I sold him several years ago.

Only problem with the above is that it is missing a hard drive :(

Otherwise that is an awesome spec :(

*EDIT*

No its not!

Hmmm, only thing is I think 450 is a hard limit, and he has set 50 aside for the case and stuff...

In other words, he cant spend more than 400, and would prefer to spend less than that :(
