Spec ne a PSU

I'd say a good-brand (Corsair / Be Quiet / others) 700W at the very minimum. Are you planning to overclock (GPU or CPU)?

Just done a check on mine with a 4870x2, I7 at stock and 2 hard discs pulls 433w with prime and 3d win mark running, this also includes monitor and printer.

Any quality brand with 620w > will be enough.

cheers guys - was looking at about 650watts+

so what are "good" brands?

budget - cheap as posible really - but still a goodish make.
looking at getting the amd3 x4 955 so wont be overclocking for a while.

BeQuiet! Dark Power Pro 650W would be my first choice.

4 x 12v rails (20A)
2 x 6+2pin pci-e
high efficiency
very quiet fan (with slightly odd post shutdown cooling)

Only downside is trying to sort out the spare cables which are not being used, but as the cables all come out one end you can place all the cable behind the mobo tray if there is room. With a modular these can be unplugged but I find trying to sort out the cable's slightly trickier as they use the whole front of the psu.

Edit: There is not much difference only cable can be removed on one and not the other, also what I wrote above :)

Doubt 650w is enough tbh the 4870 peaked at about 250w so the 4890 and after searching for 2 minutes out pops http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-4890,2262-13.html.
2x 285=570w
a cpu= 75w
then u have all ur motherboard/fans/hard drives/optical drives probably adding another 80w.
Then you also have extra draw when you overclock.

probbly looking at the 750/850w range.

The article shows wattage at AC source, this includes CPU, HD'S & motherboard ect.

Don't go skimping on your PSU - stable voltages are key to stable systems. I bought a cheap one on my first build and spent a month tearing my hair out trying to find out where the stability problems were. Luckily the PSU then died and I replaced with a decent one and all my problems went away. Once you have taken all your components in and out of your rig a few times a day in different orders to find a problem to no avail you will understand... :)
