120gb PCI SSD (for OS)
1TB SSD (for games)

Have GTX 1070, and Corsair 650w PSU, and all peripherals. Gaming at 1080p. He wants to do some streaming, and is also interested in taking his first steps into programming - so its not just for gaming, though at age 14, that's obviously its predominant use!

Thanks in advance!

Don't bother having two separate SSDs. 120 GB is marginal anyway. Spend the money on an external HDD for backup.

Thanks for the replies, and noted regarding the PCI SSD - just a normal 1TB SSD does make sense.

If taking the blue route, is there some wisdom in saving a hundred sheets by going for the i5 9600K? Currently his SB 2500K is being cooled by an old Cooler Master Hyper 412S with an extra fan attached. So if going Intel, I'd need to budget for a half decent cooler - would prob get him an AIO. Been impressed with the Fractal one that I have.

The whole Ryzen thing is a bit of a minefield. At one stage I really thought it was the obvious way to go given the bang for buck, but I've always been an Intel man myself.

after Wifi, MSI B450 Pro is a nice little set up and can take a bit more amps across is VRM set up :)

going from i7 4 core, rather double your core count(100%) then going up by 50% personally, though 6 cores 6 threads is still stronger then 4 cores and 8 threads in Pure gaming. streaming Threads can help give a boost in performance , i.e 9900k nips ahead of 9700k but isn't greater then 20% of the performance
