Basicly my budget is £450, heres the spec I have come up with so far.

All I need is a new processor, ram, HSF to overclock, gfx card, motherboard + power supply. Intend to recycle some old parts, os, HD, case, etc

My current spec is 3ghz pentium4 sckt 478
250 gb sata hd that ill use in new build
a rubbish asrock MB that supports my 478 socket P4 an has pci express
1gb ddr 400
radeon x1800xt

Basicly my question is will this new build be a lot better than what I have. I also intend to get this cheap processor and overclock it to 3GHz then replace it with a quad core when they are cheaper, hence the good motherboard. Also will the x1950xt be better than my x1800xt?? need a new gfx card as the old one will be given to my brother along with my other parts, so is what i have chosen any good for the budget or is there anything I can improve?

Thanks for your help :)

Good spec. There's nothing I'd change on there. :)

edit: you could drop the ram to Ballistix PC5300 and the motherboard to a P5N-E or Gigabyte 965 S3. Use the money saved to try and sqeeze in an 8800GTS

Cos then ill go over my budget of £450 and also I intend to wait until the new DX10 games come out and then ill get a new card based on which ones perform best in Crysis and so on. Not rly in any rush for DX10 yet.

As the guy above says, spend £50 more and get a GTS 320Mb. Or take out the Noctua and upgrade to the GTS and buy the Noctua when you got some spare money :)

Are these motherboards really future proof, for quad core and ddr3??

I could maybe scrounge some money and stretch to £500 allowing me to get the 8800gts, is it worth the extra £50?? and how is its performance compared to the x1950xt??
