Hi guys, my friend is looking to build a decent gaming rig in the price range of £550-£600. He requires everything, including a monitor. He doesn't, however, require a keyboard or mouse or speakers. Much help would be appreciated.

Regards

Bongla

Unfortunately harddrive prices are outrageous due to the flooding in Thailand.

I'm pretty sure I've seen plenty of spec me for ~£600 threads ;)

oh and as seems to be asked in every thread at the moment, can you 'recycle' any sata hard disk/s from an old pc? would mean you have more money to put elsewhere especially seeing as you want a monitor as well.

the general gaming spec is:

i2500k £180(tho seems to be reduced to £165-£170 every few weeks in this week only deal)

gigabyte z68ap-d3(if you don't need sli/xfire in future)

4gb/8gb pc3-12800 1600mhz what ever is cheapest at the time, need to be weary of fins tho as they interfer with air coolers tho not a problem if going with something like corsair h60 cooler

6870(~£150) or 560ti(~£180) depending on if you are a nvidia or ati/amd fanboy

500-650w psu the lepa w series 550w £47 seems to be suggested for budget builds

case your choice tho antec 100/300, bitfenix merc/outlaw/shiobi get mentioned £40-£50

monitor I have no idea

edit: stulid to the rescue while i was typing

heres my suggestion:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Home Server GT Intel Core i3 2100 3.10GHz DDR3 - Server £329.99
1 x System 12 Months Standard Warranty £0.00
1 x No Operating System £0.00
1 x No Hard Drive Upgrade £0.00
1 x HIS ATI Radeon HD 6870 IceQ X PLUS Edition 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **OcUK Exclusive** £149.99
1 x Dell ST2220M 21.5" Widescreen LED Monitor - Black £100.79
Total : £597.26 (includes shipping : £13.75).

also, ask in customer service if they can change the case to the bitfenix merc alpha that stulid has suggested. its so much better than the coolermaster elite 342. it will push the price up to ~£605, but its definitly worth it. i have checked with OcUK and they are happy to change the case for you

the bundle comes with pretty much the same stuff as in stulids build, but it has an OCZ-ZS PSU (pretty good one) and a 1TB HDD

the 6870 i chose has a pretty damned good cooler on it, so expect some good graphics card overclocks

Hi there:)

I would seriously consider getting the bottom one if I was you, stulid really knows his stuff and that is a great spec for the funds.

although, if you go for my suggestion you get a MUCH bigger hard drive (1TB instead of 160Gb), hardly any building to do and a 1 year warranty ;)
(the rest of the stuff in the build is pretty much exactly the same as stulids)

no idea when the graphics card i selected is due, but if you need the PC pretty quickly then you could always pick the same one stulid did. its probably worth asking about the card while you ask about the case change if you go for my build
