Hey all,Just in the middle of building a comp for a friend and just wanted a bit of advice pls!

They have got £230 for me to spend on a mobo,g-card and hd. Now i have picked out so far:

(a cheap mobo) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-223-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1485

(1tb hd this is a must) http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-082-SA

(and this g-card which also has to be good for gaming with the latest games)

If anyone has any other ideas for the same budget i would be very much appreciated :) Many thx in advance!

P.S this mobo is to run the Q8200 which is already bought,I know it's the weakest of the quads but my oldest son has this one and it seems to run things fine :)

If he can't afford to stretch to a P43 chipset I would spend an extra £5 and get the Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L Intel P31 - link - as it's a great board with plenty of clocking features (if that is his want) and also has a couple of extra DIMM slots for future upgrades.

I've not got any experience with that particular MB but Asus make great quality boards (i used to only buy them) - and their rma process is apparently a lot better.

If money is tight the Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L, i mentioned earlier, is a cracking board - but if he can afford the extra ~£10 i would opt for the Asus P5QL/EPU Pro Intel P43.

well the last comp i built i built with the asus p5q3 deluxe and i gotta say i'm still impressed to this day with asus mobo's. So i think we will prob go down that road then m8,Many thx for ur advice it was very much apprciated m8 :)

No problem.

You won’t be disappointed with the F3 – I’ve just bought one as a main boot drive for another rig and it’s very impressive for the money (only 2 platters.).

Some members have complained that they’re noisy – but mine is housed in a dedicated cage with rubber mounts which renders it silent so if you were to encounter noise issues I would recommend some rubber grommets.

You can’t go wrong, on the whole, with Asus. They make the occasional dog (for clocking), like any other company, but pound for pound I’m a massive fan and have only bought Gigabyte this past year because of Asus’s dreadful rma process – but, as mentioned before, this has greatly improved (Plus Gigabyte Boards are very good – I would buy either now).

You gfx card is a solid bit of tech for ~£125. Some ppl would argue that the 4890 is the faster option (aprox 15%) – but the 5770 has DX 11 and is also suffering from lack of drivers which is soon to be rectified (apparently). It’s rumoured that the next batch of drivers for the 7 series, 9.12, will see the speed gap close between the 2 cards making the 5770 a sound choice for any need. Basically swings and round-abouts – which ever floats your boat and suits your needs.

Your friend should enjoy his new build – the Asus BIOS is always a practical and user friendly environment (especially if you plan on clocking) and the Q8200 should hit 3GHz comfortably with very little effort. And if he’s upgrading from an old Gfx then a new video card is always a fun purchase.

Good luck with the build.
