Specialized Rockhopper SL 2010

There's a review of this bike in the lastest What Mountain Bike? They said it was a decent frame, good enough components to get you started but the fork was pretty naff.

You could do a lot worse than this at this price range, if you've never ridden better then you won't really notice the cheapo fork's drawbacks, and the frame is well worth keeping if/when you upgrade the other bits in future; should you get more seriously into your riding.

Thanks for the reply. I read somewhere else about the fork not being terribly good. What are the drawbacks of it exactly?

Incidently with the offer the shop has on at the moment the price I'd pay would be £560. Would you say it's worth doing more at this price?

Apologies, having taken a closer look at the link, it's not the bike I thought, and not the one reviewed in WMB!

This is a higher model, and the new version of the bike I bought my other half last year. Get it, it's an excellent bike, the Dart forks are entry level but much better than the Suntours I was referring to in my other post.

I bought a 2009 Rockhopper Comp this time last year as my first proper bike and its been really excellent. It got me hooked on mountain biking, which I warn you now, is bloody expensive if you get into it properly :D

Really good bike, the fork is entry level, so its a bit heavier and less refined than higher end stuff, but perfectly acceptable for most stuff and easily upgradable later if you choose to.

How much is it on offer for?

I went for it! Popped into the shop after work and placed the order. The offer was 20% off so it took it down to £559.99. Went for the 19" frame in Black. It isn't the Comp mind, just the SL. Look forward to it arriving, can snap a pic of it when it does if you like.

Nice one, looks good in black actually, very stealthy!

Yeah get some pics up, let us know how it rides too (once the ice and snow have cleared!)

My Mrs loves hers, bit of a bargain even at £600 last year for what it is.
