Specs me a 60mm CPU cooler

So I'm building my backup Mini-ITX rig using a G3258 - I'd like to OC it to 4.5Ghz and run it like that if possible. Obviously, stock cooling won't do for that.

To keep costs low I want to use a budget, but compact, ITX case. So I picked the Silverstone Sugo SST-SG13B. It has a max CPU clearance of 61mm in the specs.

So, looking for the best 60mm CPU cooler that does a good job of cooling at that level of overclock. How about it guys?

i have the K32 cooling a q6600(not the computer im typing this on) and while i havent put the quad to any real tests yet the temps have been good, i cant overclock due to psu restraints, but i paid £13 from a local store and find it a really nice cooler, even nice to look at and quiet, so the low profile version should be just as good and keep you chip cool as the G range is no where near as hot running as a q6600.
 
The 100AXP Thermalright looks good.

Been looking at the Scythe Big Shuriken 2 Rev. B as well - just under 6cm in total and looks like one hell of a performer with all those heatpipes on it.

Any opinions?

I'm trying to remember .. It seems I helped someone with the Sugo SG13 that we mounted the PSU to intake air from inside of case instead of outside. CPU cooler so CPU cooler was drawing air up away from motherboard and into PSU intake. System ran cool and quiet. Think the cooler he used was AXP-100

Lol it was probably you my google search had talking about reversing the fan to make it exhaust air rather than intake. Then you said the PSU would draw the hot air into it and then out of the case, but it wouldn't overheat the PSU.

I will try both and see the temps though, since it is just reversing the fans. AXP-100 and Scythe have similar designs, so I don't think I'll go wrong with either. Heatpipes on Scythe look better though.

PSU mounted uoside down allow it to help case airflow by pulling the heated exhaust off of CPU cooler out of case. Yes, it does mean PSU is cooling with a little warmer air, but PSU cooling is not an issue. It will cool just fine either way. But 5-10c lower CPU temps mean lower CPU cooler fan speeds means less noise. On AXP-100 the fan is 100mm .. less than half the airflow area of PSU fan and about 1/3 for maximum flow potential.

Just make sure it fits on your motherboard and is not too tall.
 
I'm building a system in the same case at the moment. From the research I have done, an aio cooler seems like the much better option, and is the one I am pursuing (and trust me, I would prefer air). With an air cooler with a couple of mm clearance, the airflow is going to be quite restricted.

An aio radiator on the front sucking in cool air and the psu exhausting air out the rear seems to be the way to go if you want to overclock in this case.

However, I am using an i5 6600k which will obviously produce more heat. I don't know much about your chip, it may produce so little heat that a low profile cpu cooler may be able to get it to 4.5ghz.

PSU intake (140mm fan) on inside of case, the 'couple of mm clearance' from CPU cooler pulling air from mobo means one helps the other .. not a restriction at all.

Seems better to me than CLC radiator dumping heated air into case from front to cool components with.

I know G3258 is lower TDP, but isn't 6600K just 100W TDP?

LGA 1150 socket, so it should fit, and max supported CPU cooler is 61mm, so at 60 it would juuuuuuust fit.

Cooler fan needs at least 15mm clearance for airflow to enter / escape. PSU intake directly above cooler allows cooler fan to draw air out of cooler and flowing into PSU.

LGA1150 socket has same mount spacing as other LGA115x, but mobo socket placements are not all the same. Only sockets with standardized placement are PCIe sockets. This means CPU socket clearance to PCIe socket.to RAM height, etc.vary. Center CPU toward PCIe socket can be anywhere from 44mm to 77mm .. with mATX and ITX usually having the least clearance. Generally other components on mobo will clear.

PCIe sockets have placement standards. CPU an RAM sockets do not. This means the spacings between them vary and can case problems with coolers fitting.

Here is AXP-100 vs Shuriken AXP-100 comes in a couple different models. Cooler is the same. Fan is the same in different colors. Mounting is different. Muscle models do not have rear mounting plate, but with such a small cooler this is not at all a problem. There are some available from another site for thirty quid.

Cryorig C7 is a nice little cooler too, but fan cannot be reversed.

Over 75mm toward PCIe so no issues there,
Quick scaling shows about 49 center CPU to near side of RAM sockets.

AXP-100 with pipes from base to fin pack toward RAM clears everything including RAM

Is the scythe okay as well if I can't get a hold of the 100? Or are you trying to tell me the 100 performs just as good and fis everything better in the future? :P
