I've just driven back from Southampton tonight, and noticed while on the M27 that they're erecting SPECS cameras on the westbound carriageway.

Just thought I'd give it a bit of a shout out, seeing as quite a few members are from around there (mrk is the only person that springs to mind, but i'm sure there's more)

Anyone else seen them?

There are SPECS just before the portsmouth section, i've seen them east and west bound.

They are just before where all the big road works used to be so whether they are doing more roadworks further up i'm not sure.

There were no signs last time i drove back to southampton, the major roadworks were gone so its 70mph all the way.

I've only driven through SPECS once, and it was rather unnerving really, little signs, rather inconspicuous cameras as I tend to look at the road than bridge height and its easy to fluctuate in motorway speed in my car without much audible difference.

But if they're putting them up on a roadworks area, how is that going to slow people down to protect the workers? Only till they've sped through and killed a worker will they have avoided the end camera and will have a different ton of **** to deal with and a lesson to learn.

I don't feel there's much warning of it bar the obvious road works and nobody tends to pay much attention to those either. There has to be a better deterrent or system to slow traffic. Stick a sodding chicane in there or something. Let natural selection work its course rather than take money off them while they come back and ignore the same issue again.

They are pretty damn effective down south. Everyone knows to respect the average speed camera signage at road works. If they ignore them or only slow for the cameras they are likely to rack up 9+ points very quickly and that will force them into obedience.

A few people lane hop in light traffic but normally the roads are chocked up with people in all lanes travelling at speed limit with less than +-5mph variation as they go.

Are these the white ones on the bridge between the M3 and the services? They've been there for years.

I have a question about roadworks. Say for example you go through a stretch of 4 GATSOs over the space of a mile in roadworks. All 4 catch you doing 10mph over the limit. Do you get 12 points or 3 points? Does the whole thing about not being prosecuted for the same crime more than once come into play here?

Pretty sure it would be 12. I remember Jim Davidson (I think) ranting on about it and how he payed his mates to take the points for him :p

Ye spotted them between Portsmouth and Fareham Westbound on the M27, and on the A27 from havant towards bognor, bloody pain in the ass, although there is only one camera that covers me on my route to work on the a27 so dont have to worry about that one but the ones on the M27 will be an absolute nightmare.

Specs are easy to deal with if you have average speed in your car. Reset it and the 1st spec and make sure it doesn't ever read over 50mph. Job done.

People say that cameras are increasing, but from house to work (junct 3 of the M3) I passed ONE speed camera that is about 1 mile away from my house. Nothing else permanent. Also, in the last year I have not seen one camera van on any M3 bridge.

The journey to wales which I regularly make see's the same one camera plus one on the A48. Thats it.

I hope they dont erect any in my sleep! lol

Hehe the camera guys on the bridges have been replaced with Traffic Agents :p only saw actually camera guy on the Eastleigh M3 bridge twice last year, not that thats a bad thing :p

They are putting them up on the M62 coming from Hull in preparation for roadworks, plus they're on the A1(m) oop north, near weatherby - roadwors again.
