I have decided to give it a go at building myself a PC. Current PC is:

AMD 3800+
ABN-SLI
2 GB Geil Ram
2 x 7600GT
120 GIG HD

I am going for a totally new rig as I am selling my old to a friend. I play allot of games (competitively) and I am looking for a system easily upgraded for future games and able to play CRYSIS and ET QW easily (Dx10).

I have never built before. Can the system be Intel based. Overclocked?

I have 1400 pounds to spend and do not need keyboard or monitor.

At what resolution? (It's a bit hard to gaurantee "easily" on games that haven't come out yet... But an 8800 should be good. Depending on resolution maybe a GTX or 640MB GTS)

Just about any system can be overclocked, the question is do you want to? (I'd definately recommend it, especially with the current intel chips :D )

(BTW, you from NZ mate?)

I would definately go with the C2D lineup. They're cheap and are good overclockers. I'd suggest the E6600 2.4ghz C2D.

Personally i dont think you need a Quad, yeah their cheap, but by the time you actully use all four cores they will be even cheaper.

True enough, probably best to wait for Penryn and pick up a Quad Core then. E6600 will do just fine for now.

The Noctua doesn't fit on the DS4 mate, because of the heatpipes on the mobo. Tuniq tower does.

Agree with the second part of your post.

Thanks for the replies. Is having a HD for the OS and one for storage better? Also I see most of you put 4 gig ram, do I need it? Cooling?

The Tuniq Tower is the CPU cooler.

I like having 1 HDD for OS and one for storage, means page file is slightly faster and games may load faster. Small difference. I RAID0 my hdds and hope they won't fail and use them for both. Personal choice, not a huge difference.

Overclocking is simple once you get the basics, theres a good sticky in the overclocking section.
