Just a quick thread, was driving down the M60(I believe it was) and notice a sign saying 30, so behind it were quite a lot of specs camera's spread out, I noticed a feint flash as I drove past, do they have a light in them?
Do they flash? Or could it be reflections off headlights?

As long as you braked in front of the cameras to get to the speedlimit you can speed until the next one.

lol at all those people who think otherwise.

Erm, no you can't, not for specs cameras.

What an apt username you have.

am i right in thinking if you speed though one as long as you go below the speed limit for the remainder of space between cams that you wont be done for speeding? (as long as your avergae speed is somewere around the speed limit)

Exactly.

Therefore you could boot it up to 180mph, but might have to sit on the hard shoulder for 5 mins before you go through the next set lol. :D

LOL, such a great waste of our money then aren't they, every idea they come up with always has a workaround.

It would be interesting to know how much a SPECS setup does actually cost. Presumably each set of cameras has to scan every single number plate going past, store it in some form of database, and then compare it with previous entries several times a second, which can't exactly be cheap.

Yeah right, err not!

SPECS are the best cameras for enforcing a speed limit over a stretch of road. They work brilliantly.

;) at DRZ :D

booting it up to 180mph then sitting at the side for 5 mins would be fruitless though as anyone you overtook driving at the correct speed would catch you up and drive past you.

Or would you just be doing it for the thrills? ;)

They enforce an average speed limit, whichever way you want to look at it. They only catch people who speed on average, which is a far better representation than a GATSO although still not perfect. They achieve exactly what they set out to do though which is keep people's speed down for a prolonged period (through roadworks, for example).

Bit OT, but didnt think it deserved a new thread, are there still SPECS and a 50mph limit on the M56 on the big bridge which goes over the river near the refinary before Ellesmere Port / Cheshire Oaks?

So if I was caught doing 33mph what would happen? Would it be different for 35mph?

This is on a stretch of motorway what required the driver to do 30mph

3pts + £60?

If there were 4-8 sets of them would that mean a seperate fine for each pair going me too fast past?

You'd get an SP50 and 3points + £60 fine (unless you went really fast through them!).

Pretty sure that they work out your average speed from the first one you pass up to the last one you pass. The reason why there are multiple ones is because of junctions etc, or just the length of the roadworks.

(I'm not 100% sure on that but it would make sence...)

SPEC's are great, they do exactly what is required :)

What would happen for anything up to 5mph over the required speed?

I know for a fact I wasn't doing 40mph.
