SPECS

Just an SP50 still I'd guess. You'd have to be doing a decent speed in order to get a court appearance I'd have thought. Might even get lucky :)

I went on the M62 the other day, Are they SPEC's cameras? I wasnt sure so stuck to 70!

Not that I know of. Defo not from the M6 east all the way to Manchester as I do that very often.

You can clearly see SPECS.

Ok, It was near birmingham, as i went to Drayon Manor. It said average speed cameras, with variable speed boards. Cameras with GATSO's style lines.

I've seen camera's looking down on the M62 heading towards Manchester from Leeds.

There look to be some heading towards Leeds aswell, on the J21 sliproad, where there are roadworks. It's 30mph in that area even though people still do 40mph+

Does 10%+2mph count with specs? I can't see anything up to 5mph as being overly dangerous even though 30 means 30.

There were no workmen around, just cones closing one of the lanes off.

You think I could go on a speed awareness course if worst comes to worst?

Bit OT, but didnt think it deserved a new thread, are there still SPECS and a 50mph limit on the M56 on the big bridge which goes over the river near the refinary before Ellesmere Port / Cheshire Oaks?
Yep, but the limit is 40 not 50.

Spose i'm gonna have to sit this one out for 14 days?

Are Saturdays and Sundays included in the 14 days?

The 10% + 2mph is a myth. There are no set rules, they can do you for 31mph if they like. It's totally down to the police force.

And andy, the M62 goes from Liverpool - Hull, no where near Birmingham

Yes. But it only has to be posted within 14 days, so it could arrive a couple of days after that and still be valid.

Where heading towards Leeds? I've never seen any. You mean near the m621?

There were SPECS at the end of the M42 when there were roadworks but they are long gone now.

The M42 also has Active Traffic Management but this is not SPECS.

It's odd how you guys talk about them being at roadworks. I read that they cost something like £400,000 to set up - seems a bit OTT for a temporary site? Or I presume they can transport them elsewhere.

Yes they just shift them along when the roadworks are done, as there were some on the M62 in the central reservation that are now gone.

Theres a camera looking down thats sat on a concrete bridge/gantry, this is on the exit sliproad going towards Milnrow, and theres another camera at the other end that looks the same near the roundabout in Milnrow.

They just pull them up and move them.

Yep the ones I drove past yesterday were on these great big bright yellow poles, with some fancy spiral patterns in the corners.

I suppose you could call that heading towards Leeds, it is miles away though!!!

Whats the difference?

I think an active traffic management system has cameras to keep track of congestion and road conditions and automatically reduces the speed limit (via the overhead gantries) to suit.

SPECS is clearly marked as average speed cameras and has overhead cameras taking your reg plate and timing you between two points (usually about a mile) to check your speed. There is a fixed speed limit on SPECS, I don't think they have them in conjunction with active traffic management (or do they?)

I drove all along the M4 yesterday, I have no idea what they look like but didn't see anything too noticeable along the way, though I was told that there might be a set between Bath and Bristol, is this still true?
Is there a speed enforcement website I could visit so as I could read up on the subject?
