SPECS

I drove all along the M4 yesterday, I have no idea what they look like but didn't see anything too noticeable along the way, though I was told that there might be a set between Bath and Bristol, is this still true?
Is there a speed enforcement website I could visit so as I could read up on the subject?

No SPECS on the M4 mate, I've done it many many times. They have GATSO camera's near Bristol on the 50MPH roadworks and often park camera vans on the bridges Nr Swindon J14 - J 16. Thats is all really, no SPECS whatsoever. Its the Vans i hate, as they clock you from 79 now.

Yes. But it only has to be posted within 14 days, so it could arrive a couple of days after that and still be valid.

The NIP must arrive within 14 days of the date of the offence, and also be posted early enough to arrive within those 14 days taking into account any holidays that my occur during the period.

Just a quick thread, was driving down the M60(I believe it was) and notice a sign saying 30, so behind it were quite a lot of specs camera's spread out, I noticed a feint flash as I drove past, do they have a light in them?
Do they flash? Or could it be reflections off headlights?

Up Oldham way? If so they're SPECS. God knows what they're doing roadworks for - the road is about 4 years old!

You need to pass more than one at speed to get caught as they work on average speed between two or more points. They don't flash - you likely caught a reflection off the lens.

I took the A627, then went down past Birch Services, and joined the M60, I was heading to Cheadle Hulme.

That's the area.

The mighty Cheadle Hulme eh. That's a couple of miles from here...

If you said you saw 'a faint flash' just as you went past, I think that'll just be the light reflecting off the glass. I've been caught like that before, thought it was flashing then found it did it on every single camera.

If you'd been caught you'd know, they have a definite, bright flash.

That's even visible in the daylight? Is it a blinding flash?
I wouldn't have said it was blinding, but it's bright enough so you know beyond doubt you've been flashed. It's like a camera flash, probably the best description.

Specs don't flash.

There are SPECS on the M6, around junction 5, give or take aj unction or two either side. (A38 Brum)

As as been said, it's most likely reflection from the IR lens or the camera itself. Truvelos can give a dull purple flash when they're set off but that's their IR flash where-as SPECs doesn't flash at all.

In case you wondered, the two white boxes to the side of the yellow camera are IR emitters which illuminate the car and it's licence plates at night time.

Gatsos catch you from behind and flash much like a camera. These are the cameras with white lines painted on the road in front.

Truvelos catch you from the front, have a faint/no flash (for obvious reasons) and measure speed with pressure strips in the road, around 10 metres in front of the camera.

SPEC's simply tags every driver when they enter and leave a defined strip of road, works out your speed (distance/time) and fines accordingly.

Anyone remember the article where the guy got caught for speeding 3 times through the same camera in 5 minutes.

Turns out he thought he saw a flash behind him and kept going past to see what it was.
