SPECS

BTW. Six sets of SPECS were installed beginning of the week on A2 around Darenth Interchange - (it's the Darford Tunnel/M25 Interchange) both eastbound and westbound. They measure speed in all possible directions - A2 to M25 , M25 to A2 and A2 via underpass. Major roadworks is the official reason for installation, speed limit is 50, no workers in sight, looks like they plan to narrow down A2 to 2 lanes over next 6 months....

There are from today, both ways. They also erected exta set of cameras eastbound. So you can get snapped twice on A2 within 2 miles.

Whats more accurate?

GPS(TomTom 510) or the Speedo on my dashboard because when my speedo says i'm doing 30mph, the TT510 says 26-27mph

GPS.

The 10%+2 speedo allowance is from the fact that speedos only have to be upto 10% accurate over speed and 0% under speed. Most speedos are more accurate than the 10% though.

27mph (real speed) + 10%= ~30mph (what your speedo says)

Thread recycling in progress....

I thought I would warn those in South East - this morning on my way to work I noticed various crews on A2 are erecting new SPECs posts between Gravesend East & Istead Rise (around Morrisons) all the way to the already SPECced roadworks around the Bluewater interchange, six, maybe eight pairs both eastbound and northbound. Looks like it soon will be 50 mph all the way between M25 underpass and Medway...

I actually prefer SPECS over regular cameras given the choice (which we don't have anyway). At least it accounts for the fact that people need to go faster than the speed limit very occasionally (e.g. overtaking), just as long as they're not idiots.

SPEC's simply tags every driver when they enter and leave a defined strip of road, works out your speed (distance/time) and fines accordingly.

And if they don't get you for speeding, they will fine you for (stealth) tax evasion :D

Is it not true also that there is a major flaw with Specs that cannot cope with lane changes,

i.e. If you go through camera one in lane 1, and camera 2 in another lane then specs cant get your average speed ??

Suposedly, you go try it and let us know for sure!

Ill stick to the posted limit and have 14 days of worry free-ness! :) Specs are usually only couple of miles or so and doesnt really make that much difference to my journey times.

The cameras can handle it, the legislation that governs their use can't. :D

I remember doing 39mph in a 40 limit contraflow cause I could see the SPECS cameras. Guy behind me was flashing, beeping and all sorts, then tore off as it split into 2 lanes.

I hope I didn't save his license!
