Speed Bumps everywhere

I'm not sure if it's like this elsewhere in the UK but in Stoke, pretty much every none main road is obtaining speed bumps.

I take a longer route now from work just to avoid them, it's that bad.

Honestly I would prefer speed cameras than these suspension abusers.
 
the roads around where i live have speed bumps, but the council suck that much the roads are that bad that when you go over one they basicly take out the underside of your car
 
I hate them too, they just make me paranoid and I end up driving over them at about 5mph.

I'll often taken routes just to avoid them even if it adds a little time to my journey.

I feel your pain man. However don't think I agree with the speed cameras bit!
 
I think there should be some more stringent standards for them. It seems that driving over many of them anywhere near the speed limit is suspension damage territory, unless you're in a 4x4 or something.

I would personally ban them for anything but 20mph stretches near schools etc.
 
i have no choice other than to creep around them in either of my cars. 4x4s dont even lift off the throttle and neither do the regular numpties meaning theyre not particularly effective
 
yep everywhere, here in newquay, even in 30mph zones???? im treading over them lighter in my new car, but the rover I had i just flew over the stupid things.
 
Its strange how technology has improved over the years yet garages are seeing record rates of shock/spring failures isn't it, can't think why :S

Speed bumps are typical government thinking, trying to create a solution to a problem and not the cause of the problem.
 
Think how much effort the Romans put in to get rid of the bumps and make nice smooth roads. Now the councils are undoing all that work by putting the bumps back in!
 
They're actually there to break your suspension components before it happens on a pothole - thereby reducing damage claims to local authorities...
 
You want to live and work in London like I do. Speed bumps everywhere which is ridiculous because traffic doesn't move anywhere and there are red lights every 300 yards. I specifically bought a 4x4 for driving to work in our capital in part due to this reason. People ridicule Chelsea tractors but in the harshy urban landscape they are a huge benefit in terms of riding over speed bumps and potholes and giving you good visibility of other crazy road users.
 
Stoke is getting worse for these damn things, not an issue in my HGV tbh (unless carrying loads of empty glass bottles!) but a real pita with my car.
 
Worse than speed bumps are speed cushions, I've scraped a fair few since my new springs were fitted. I'd much rather have traffic calming measures like chicanes, rather than risk my suspension components.
 
I have to creep over them in one of my cars, particularly as it's lowered. It hugely annoys the 4x4's behind me who race right up to my bumper thinking it will get me moving faster over them. But I just take them in my own good time and they can get as frustrated as they want, I'm not going to damage my car by rushing.

I have no shame in overtaking on a speed bump. :p

Honestly, lowered car drivers. Don't you looked at the roads before modifying your car?

Lowering. Pft. Raised. It's the future. :D
 
There's one right outside my house, I used to chuckle to myself when I heard Saxo body-kits scraping over it, until I had to get a wishbone and bushes replaced as my wife can't drive.
