I was driving through a 30 limit earlier at about 35 - 36 mph indicated earlier and i noticed a normal police car just parked on the road.

Im now starting to wonder if it was a speed camera?

Firstly the area in question does not have any speed camera signs and the limit is not even very clearly marked, just it has a few shops and the road is fairly wide.

I drove past again a while later and noticed just one guy in the car front seat looked as if he was reading something,

Just wondering wether ive been caught really, the site is not marked on http://www.safetycameraswiltshire.co.uk/ and i would be annoyed as this was about 10,30pm at night!

Any ideas?

As far as I know they have to pull you over there and then to give you a ticket, you won't get one in the post.

Can i ask, why this is? Surely they could just have a gun?

Dont they have the blacked out windows inside the van, which they aim from?

Sounds like im safe then as i couldnt see any think near the van.

you said it was a car, now your saying its a van?

police do use guns, however they pull you over at that time or there is other cars waiting further down the road.

they generally do but they don't have to

as you say if it wasn't a camera van and you weren't stopped at the time then it is highly unlikey that you will get done

If they dont pull you over then they cant prosecute surely?
no photgraphic evidence from just a gun display.

No - the bit about pulling you over is so that they can serve the NIP on in verbally. That way there's no argument about who was driving and no 14-day rule.

But in general, when real plods (as opposed to the civvies who do most of the speed traps) do speed check they do it out in the open (even if hidden behind a hedge).

When me and my friends went to wales, my mate recived a ticket a few days later in the post. We drove past a police van that must have being doing speed checks, so they dont have to pull u over.

But this wasnt a full van, just a police car.

they do actually... as long as the window is open, theyre stationary and its being held in a stable manner. i had one pointed at me whilst driving in ripon a few months back (i was driving towards him, only noticed what it was as i turned the corner he was parked at. it was also an unmarked car but policemen dressed in uniform :o)

Dont let the time think its ok, they pull people on empty roads at 4am if your doing just 40 and no one is even about. They do legally have to show a sign but sometimes its hidden, or its pathetically small - How do they get away? The court will say to you "ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law". Catch some real criminals....nah make more money off hard working people.

i dont think the normal police will be doing speed checks, only traffic police with the bigger lights on them, noramlly volvo T5s round hear tho we have octavias and a scooby, wich i have been in...lol
but if its just the small lighted astra/focus etc then i think its unlikley.
