Think i just ot caught on a speed camera in a 30 zone doing a little over 40.. (yes yes i know my own fault)

But i was told fixed cameras cant capture you from the front as the flash could potentially blind you??

I assume this isnt true as it did flash at me, and was indeed a bit blinding. (although there was another car in the other lane but looked considerly slower than 30)

So is this true or not?

... Plus what am i going to have to pay for the ticket if it indeed is for me?

If it was a Gatso then they get you from behind (oooer), if it was a Truvelo, they have a purple flash and face you.

Info: http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/speed-camera-types.htm

Its deffinetly a Gatso type.. As i cycle past it everyday on my way to work.

But it was deffiently "facing toward" me so couldnt of got me from behind. Unless it has loads of secret mirrrors in the bushes :P Am i safe? (although it may also be out of film.. i can hope :) )

And yes i was deffinetly over 40... it was my fault, i kind of floored it assuming that camera cant get me from the front. :D

I've not known anyone to get caught with it facing forwards. I would assume it was meant to get people on the other side of the road?

Well yes thats the idea... But it defiently flashed at me. Which is what was odd. Maybe it was just faulty or somthing.

If you get a ticket does it say what type of camera you were caught by?

I was going along a dual carriageway yesterday when i saw those blue police speed check signs, so i slowed down as i was expecting to see some police about (was about half 5), anyway i had to come of at the slip road as they had closed further along as they were working on the bridge, and i had go back up the slip road on the opposite side to get back up, and all i saw a little way along was this yellow like block standing on the grass verge about 3-4ft high with one of those like "your speed" signs on it, it didn't say "your speed", but it was displaying your actual speed in a circle, and going up/down with you, so you could see it changing, dunno if you can get tickets of those though, and the only other thing i saw on it was a little red light near the bottom of it which im assuming was some sort of laser so it knew what speed you were dong to display it to you.

Was a bit like those other ones you see on poles that display a sad face, and then change to a happy one if you go under the limit, but this one was displaying your speed.

Was like this, but just sitting on the grass verge side of the road, and you could see it counting down as your speed reduced, and it would presuambly count back up if you went faster.

As far as I now, no you can't. There no different from the flashing speed limit signs. They simply show your speed and you have to try and go past at 100mph+ and see what happens.

Be funny if you went over 100+, and then when you got past it, you looked in your rear view mirror and saw sparks coming off it, then it explode. :D

Gatsos cannot be used to catch speeders coming towards them, but that doesn't stop the Scamera partnerships from trying it on and setting the cameras up so that they take pictures in both directions (as they use doppler radar they know which direction the vehicle is going in and should be set just to catch vehicles moving away). If you do get a NIP just ask for the photos and they will only be able to send you one (they need to provide two to give an independent measure of your speed) and so you can just throw it back at them.
