Speed camera question.....

Yeah but so what?

Are you suggesting the DVLA have a Face matching System whereby it cross references the face on camera to the faces on peoples licences?

I'd be struggling to believe they could do anything tbh, otherwise how come so many people just clone a plate and drive into the London Congestion zone.

Perhaps you may have a better idea than than me, as from what I have gathered from reading various posts on the forums you have some sort of involvement with the police.

If you're plates are cloned you need to tell the police issuing the ticket that this is the case. They will want to then find the person pictured. During the enquiry they match the photo to you and you end up getting prosecuted for wasting police time a well as the points and fine.

It's not that clever, it's just to stop people who stand to loose their license passing the points off to someone else.

In some European countries a photo is required for prosecution so the camera manufacturers have gone down this route.

Eh? If you're running around on cloned plates why on earth would you tell the plod?

The person whose plates you've cloned will get a nice letter in the post from the plod and will look at the photo and go "Derp, that's not me", but because the plod don't have any face matching magic stuff they won't know who it infact was and you who did ZOMG 61MPH get away scot free.

I assumed Dr Pain was suggesting that he just told the Police someone had to have cloned his plates not that he was actually using cloned plated. My bad.

Yeah im not exactly saying go out and start putting cloned plates on your car, but with the whole stupid speeding thing and how utterly minor it is in the general scheme of the world, its bloody tempting sometimes.

Unfortunately for me, my car is an extremely rare colour, so I would probably get clobbered!

But imagine a popular car... a silver Vauxhall Astra, a white van, perhaps a Focus, jees, they wouldnt stand a chance of finding out.

Dont get me wrong, Im perfectly law abiding, but when you have complete morons making up laws like the "a taxed car must be insured or we will fine you" things start to rile me up. Such dumb people in charge.

One of my cars was taxed, and was awaiting me getting out of hospital to rebuild the gearbox, it was doing no harm outside my house on private land, so wtf? Why should I get fined for not insuring it because its broken?

Sorry, got carried away, but some of the legislation in this country is farcical.

Depending on the circumstances, speeding can be trivial or extremely dangerous. You can't say that all speeding is minor.

I highly doubt that. You may be generally law abiding but not perfectly ;)

I don't disagree with that.

If it was a gatso then it won't cause any issues - I've set them off many times driving towards them, it will have only flashed once instead of twice. They're not designed to prosecute drivers driving towards them.

A truvelo on the other hand are designed to record you when driving towards them - but don't really "flash".

Sorry for the late post but currently in holland, thanks for all your replies guys and woohoo \o/

I'll update this in 14 days if anything comes of it :)
