Speed Camera Vans

speaking of which im waiting for a letter as we speak :(

going up the A5, nice wide road, clear as day etc, my satnav beeped to tell me a camera up ahead, after that spot i over took a van so sped up to 80 whilst doing so , my sat nave beeped again and just going past this van, i could see a speed van not too far away :(

Dual or single carriageway?

Well I'm glad that I don't go above 80 indicated (73 GPS) unless going down that big hill near Bath where there are no bridges for these people to place cameras. :P You can reach 90 even with pretty much closing the throttle :o

Its a bit of a pain sometimes as yesterday I was cruising at 80 behind a Merc (who must have had cruise control - his speed didn't move one bit) in the inside lane, but people middle lane where overtaking and people in the outside where overtaking that!

It was reasonably light traffic so if the people on the inside lane got done for doing 80 indicated that bloody ridiculous :(

They park up vans in a lay by type thing about a 1/4 mile from the slip road, tossers. I've seen them a few times, mostly on weekend evenings. Its a real pita because you've just tanked it up the hill, and your momentum zooms you down the other side, and yes with no throttle you'll still be hitting 90.

You should read up on them, they work on the same frequency as the laser on the camera it jams it so it can't get your speed. It also works with the hand held police cameras. Fully legal as they are parking sensors and it is a public frequency.

apart from they don't work. Just because they are on the same frequency does not mean it can jam or interferes.

are you sure your not confusing it with the garage opening sensers? there was a thing about it on TV (top gear perhaps?) and as long as you can prove that its for your garage then its totally legal

Same principle they need to have a use to be legal.

and still wont work. If you think it does go through a speed camera with one and see if you get a ticket. It's one of those thinks which if you know nothing sounds like it should work. but if you look at what actually happens and how it works. They do jack all.

Also good luck explaining why you're trying to open your garage door 50 miles away from home and/or why you have an automatic garage door opening kit on your car when you either don't have the corresponding motorised system on your garage, or don't have one full stop....

You might get away with it once or twice, but eventually they'll come knocking at your door

There was a camera van on a bridge over the dual carriageway recently. People spotted it, and everyone in both lanes slowed down to 50mph. People really don't understand.

They are not just on the same frequency they are designed to jam the camera, there is no way you would use it to speed past a camera however the magazine reviews have confirmed they do work. More a safe guard as the vans start to hide better.

I have had only one close call where I hit the brakes hard when I saw the van they alerted several times when they were targetting me however I never got a speeding ticket. This may have been luck with spotting the van quickly it may not have been.

rofl it takes a split second. pure luck and over read.

It could well have been luck, it may take a split second for one reading however it kept going until I was well under the speed limit so I assumed they kept trying to get my speed either way I was happy as it was a summons to court if they had got my speed as I came round the corner. Even if it doesn't jam the camera it was the reason I saw the van as it was a dot further up the road.

If you know all this, surely it can't be hard to stay below the limit?
