seems like some of the police really dont like em

“The irresponsible siting of speed camera for income generation has been a highly effective means of eroding public support for the police. Their benefits are strictly limited to speeding offences and do nothing to tackle the array of other dangerous driving offences.”
Alan Gordon
Vice-Chairman of the Police Federation

Excerpt from Police Magazine Dec 2005

I hate them; they don't do anything useful.

It is just a way to raise money, most of this is ploughed back in to something or other they say, but I heard maintaining them is very expensive.

The reason I say they are useless is because people slow down for the few yards where they see the lines, then speed up again as soon as they pass them. It isn't stopping speeding at all.

Couldn't care two hoots about the fixed cameras tbh as the vast majority of the ones I come across ARE there for a good reason. It's the ******* mobile ones that really annoy me, they ARE without doubt just revenue machines 50%-60% of the time.

Fixed cameras in the right places are brilliant. Only in the right places though. But gits jumping out of bushes is what gets on my boobies.

They dont bother me, never been caught by one and mose around Wigan are in right places, i.e schools.

Also never seen one thats been damaged.

Purely money making, funny how cops are suppose to catch criminals and hide waiting to flash motorists? whilst someone is probably being raped or beaten. Nice to know taxes are being put to good use ^^

How do they stop accidents? I seen people slam on so harshly they swirve into the other lane to miss the lines, someone was going down a 60 but it changes to a 40 right away theres a camera lol..he got forgot which one it was so he slams on to 40 with a coach behind him....near miss heh - Is this what theyre meant to do lol?

Roads that are long and 30mph are there on purpose to make you speed and they catch you (cops) -.-

Now they making them stealth ones on the motor way they go hiiiiigh above your head like one of the lights so you cant see them - Great!!!!!

Down the dual carriage way of 60 where a speed camera once was I see a same height piece of machinary but its blue and looks like a security camera - is this a new breed of speed camera? I cant imagine having a security camera on a road of 60 where no houses or stuff is about....?

the only thing that I have against fixed speed cameras is they have no differentiation against people who are acting in spirit of the law i.e 32 mph (friend has £60 fine for this in a 30 mph limit,) and people who are doing 40mph (£60 fine and 3 points) who should be punished more. the only way to make speeding or more importantly aggressive driving !! illiegal or outlawed, is to employ more traffic police who can differentiate and use there own judgement, also stop aggressive driving and not blanket punish everybody.

but speed bumps also slow the emergency services by upto 10 seconds per hump

Research by the Fire Department in Portland, Oregon, USA, shows that a fire engine is delayed by up to 10 seconds per hump, putting lives in danger. Count the number of humps between your house and the nearest fire station to work out how long the fire engine will be delayed getting to your house.

They stop people speeding in accident hotspots and save lives...

YEH I HATE EM!

they dont stop people speeding in accident hotspots per say, they just move the hotspots up. People just slow down when they see a camera, then as soon as they pass the lined range thing they speed up again, which just moves the hotspots up a bit.

Surely a speed bump would stop people speeding. I thought cameras are there to spot people who do speed... ;)

Yeh. A speed bump just slows em down. Speed cameras own the heck out of the losers who do speed past em. and I'm glad they do.

Go present your speed cameras are evil speech to someone who'd lost a family member to some moron going 50 in a 30 zone. See how big you feel then.
