Just the normal side of the road ones -> Can they snap two lanes at once (either both going away from it, or one away and one towards)?

Got flashed by what I think was a truvelo in Liverpool last night but I was only traveling an indicated 28/29mph, it was front facing and I'm not sure if a car was going the opposite direction and also the car infront went through considerably faster than me.

Anyone know if they can get you from the front? Or anyone who knows Liverpool can they tell me what type of camera they are? Quite worried now even though I wasn't speeding.

Truvelo are forward facing and have two circle lenses one smaller than the other. Gatsos are rear facing and are preceeded with white painted lines on the road ahead.

...and you set a Truvelo off by running over the three (?) white lines/pressure sensors a few metres in front of the camera. People slamming their brakes on when they see the thing a mile off can get quite irritating.

Is there any truth in that?

I'm fairly sure the white lines are just painted on the road for reference in the photgraphs. AFAIK the cameras use an infrared sensor which measures vehicle speed and determines whether it will photograph or not.

You can set Gatsos off which are facing you on the other side of the road because I've done it a number of times. I realise you can't be convicted though - or at least I assume not.

Where about where you?

There are only a hand full of Truvelo cameras in liverpool that I know of, allmost all are Gatsos.

yep, I've set many off on the wrong side of the road, even when doing double the speed limit I've never heard anything.

Truvelos use two pressure strips embedded in the road surface to measure speed. The three white lines are used to differentiate cars that go through the camera at the same time as it is set off. The infra-red flash as someone has already explained is used to illuminate the number plate without blinding the oncoming driver. Gatsos, flashing from beind, would not exhibit this behaviour.

Gatsos use radar to determine the vehicles speed, the white lines painted in front of the camera are used as a guide to operators to show how fast the vehicle was actually travelling.
