What's the best one to get etc. with in reason (costs etc.)

Those that use the Road Angel Plus any thoughts?

Which speed camera detector?

Hi all,

Does anyone use a speed camera detector? The only brands I know of are Road Angel and Snooper, but I have no idea if either of them are any good.

I assume that any detector will do fixed sites perfectly. However I want one which accurately does mobile sites. When I used a TomTom I had the database which seemed to beep constantly for mobile sites which may or may not have been active in the past few years.

Not interested in the laser detectors, but don't mind if it comes with one.

Many thanks,

Nick

both the Road Angel and Snooper aren't detectors
they use a database installed in the unit just like satnav`s,
my road angel have laser detector capability, but by the time it warns you you will have been nicked anyway
there is a new road angel that has live update in the car so the database is the most upto date
the best thing to do is not speed, all the units are just there to warn you were they maybe a mobile site
none can tell you that today on this date the mobile unit will be here or there, they all rely on someone reporting the mobiles site and then they add it to there next database update

I use an Origin B2. Super device. Hard wired it into my cars 12v feed beneath the dash. You update its GPS database using a usb cradle and if you dont update it every 2 weeks it warns you its not up to date. Also comes with a laser detector. Some school of thought says by the time it goes off youre nicked, the theory is it bounces off cars in front of you and you can adjust your speed accordingly.

Its not cheap, but it has proved very accurate for me over the past 2 years. After sales help superb as well. Im not a speed freak, but it has alerted me to sneaky cameras in unfamiliar areas that I otherwise might not have seen.

If you drive a BMW, a far cheaper way of doing GPS detection is simply adding the sites (buy the database from PocketGPS World) as POI to the SatNav disc.
See http://www.bmwnavaddpoi.co.uk/ and http://pimp-my-nav.com/.

I think the one ShakenNstirred means is the Road Angel Professional Connected.

IIRC the last of the true Laser & Radar detectors (with a GPS databse too) was the Snooper S6-R Neo, but I don't think you can get them these days and they were apparently not that good anyways!

Is it hard to get TomTom working on the Diamond Kermit? I'm using Igo8 at the minute which is actually really good.
