What should a lad of 18 and "average fitness" be able to do a mile in? How many minutes do you think i should go for?

Your basic fitness test is 1 & a half miles in 10 and a half mins - but this also includes a run of 1 and a half miles to get to the start point.....

Im a bit of a porker, and the best i have done it in is 5.55, but that was along time ago, generally i do a mile in 6.45 mins flatout.

Sub 6 mins if you of average fitness, and sub 5 mins if you are pretty fit.

Balls, sub 5 if you want to join the SAS...

There are no rules for a mile. 10:30 is a good time, but that depends on a lot of things.

Also, remember that unless you are running for a specific target - running alone is not the ultimate measure of how fit you are

It's hard to put a number on it really, but I would say if you can do a mile in under 10 mins then you are in ok shape :)

Totally agree with this. I could cycle all day (and frequently do), but if I try to run I collapse in agony before I get to the end of my road.

when at my fittest i would do a 1.5 bft (basic fitness test) in sub 8 Min's, at this time i would be 13 14 Stone now i do it it in 10 Min's dead at 17 stone. Under 1030 is the passmark for the army regulars.

I just did it in about 8 minutes 30, but that included a 1 minute 30 rest after about 3/4 of a mile because i felt sick lol!

Same with me. I've been cycling for years, but I can't run due to getting hit by a car a few years back. I'm struggling with trying to burn fat. All I can do is a lot of weights to burn calories, but when I get an injury (latest being tendons in right shoulder) I was out for 7 weeks, and put on about half a stone and lost a lot of muscle.

It's so frustrating I feel like screaming until I pass out!

But that's off topic :D

I started running towards the end of November I think, my best time for a mile is 7 mins 43 seconds. Going to see if I can beat it when I go out again tomorrow :)

CROWS! I need to pump out three tonight.. I'm aiming for 20mins, then lots of sit ups and press ups... And then do some mechanical comprehension questions
