Speed isn't everything...

These ones (not a great picture)

That's exactly why I drove/drive the type of car I do, something involving that makes you feel part of the action and so rewarding to drive. I don't think I could see myself in something refined for many years, just too removed and isolated.

I had a ride in a 330CI the other day and it was quick, well built and comfy but too removed/refined for my taste.

Neil.

Agreed.

Try the 530 :( The only thing I dislike about my car is that it doesn't quite feel as quick as it is. Then you look at the speedo.

There is more excitement in going YAHOOO THIS IS FAST WAYHAY then glancing at the speedo to find 70mph slowly approaching than going 'Hmmm, it's accelerating ok I guess *glance at speedo* OMFG'.

Of course, the latter is great for overtaking.

Whilst I agree to an extent and can still find myself grinning at a nice country lane jaunt in my lowly Focus, I'd love to have something like a 530 which could apply power almost effortlessly for motorways and cruising. I guess the best thing is to have a car which gives the best of both worlds.

In principle though, yes, you don't need to be going fast to be having fun. The most fun times Ive had in my car have probably been at 50MPH or less.

Dont get me wrong, there isn't currently anything this side of £20k I'd swap it for (I can't afford to run an M5 at this stage). I was just pointing out one of its flaws :)

You say flaw, and yet it was probably a primary design feature.

I think the distinction here is that there's a difference between driving fast and driving quickly.

You can still drive quickly down a small twsity road, without really driving fast in the grand scheme of things.

This is what I love about the Dolomite, it doesn't hide speed like a more modern car. Been able to have a lot more fun at legal speeds then compared to my old Focus. Certainly it is one of the big things that would matter to me for my next car.
