Speed limit reductions...anywhere else getting polluted with these new limits/signs?

Why the metric tonne? Thats only 100km/hr . . . . :D

I think the gentlemen was referring to a cockney rhyming slang speed, a tonne whilst metric just refers to the number 100 rather than a classification of metric or imperial, either way 100km or 100mph is way too fast and I am disgusted not more people here don’t take an exception with such inferences

Coming back from Huddersfield yesterday, I dropped off the motorway and took the country route due to the weather. Was happily zipping along at 60mph and slowed down to 50mph when I saw the sign then after a while I realised there was no sign to take it back up to 60 like there used to be. No reason at all for it.

The council have also reduced the speed limit on a road I take to get to and from work. Went from a 40 to a 30, again, for no reason and I've yet to see anyone sticking to 30.

Ton/tonne : miles/km surely? :)

Where my Grandparents live they have just reduced the speed limit from 30mph to 20mph. To top it off they have also put speed bumps on the road and havent fixed any of the potholes. Its really annoyed me and makes me wonder if its even worth having a decent car.

After driving around the countryside quite a bit this weekend, i have noticed that a lot of roads are now down from nsl to either 50 or 40 limits in oxfordshire, what i have found funny though is i will be going down the road, see a nsl sign, then a few metres further down a sign saying "welcome to berkshire", seems at least one council knows there is nothing wrong with the roads around here!

Speed limits don't matter anymore as everyone seems to drive 30-40mph everywhere now. They just sit there...going 35mph on a 50mph limit wasting my life away!

I got stuck behind a bunch of people doing 30mph on Saturday, no idea where they were going, but none of them enjoyed being overtaken.

Another speed-related gripe I've discovered in the past few days. They've just put speed bumps on a road near to me. Said road is a 30mph, it's almost a town-bypass; there are no houses looking directly onto it and there's a grass verge between the road and the pavement. There's never been a single accident on this road.

Now, admittedly everyone does 40 along it, with few exceptions. Not enough to justify spending thousands of pounds on speed bumps it. To add insult to injury (or perhaps to make it amusing as well), most of the drivers on said road have now found you can drive with the foot to the floor along the middle of the road, which is obviously more dangerous than having no speed bumps.

Overtake them

That's not always possible, especially on my commute to work. The road that is 50mph is very bendy (long sweeping bends, making it hard to judge a safe overtake) and on the straights it has loads of islands and hatch markings in the middle.

On another note, I do find driving psychology very interesting. Often there will be someone going pretty slowly, i'll overtake them and then they will be right up my backside going much faster than they were before. People are odd.

I think Mr general public is very worried over two things, fuel costs & speeding tickets

We are being constantly told how much fuel is and how to save, so your average Jo would rather leave 5 minutes earlier and get more mpg, also the state of the fluctuations in speed limits its safer / easier / more lazy to travel at 30 / 40 everywhere than get a ticket

I live in Sussex which was quite simple, village = 30 mph and then everywhere else nsl, now there is so much variation that they have just joined up villages together @ 30

Also the government have committed to reducing road deaths so how easier to fulfill than make everyone drive @ 30 everywhere

We used to be able to enter a roundabout at speed but now they have built fences so that you need to almost come to a stop, also traffic lights all have shrouds on them, you used to he able to prepare to go by seeing a small part of the other traffics light but now you have wait there like a lemon

I too have noticed this fence crap starting to happen around Wokingham and Bracknell. What's the deal with it? It seems totally counter productive for road safety and emissions.

The one that winds me up is the one at the end of the M50. Huge sweeping roundabout - usually empty. You used to be able to take it at 60-70mph with plenty of visibility.

Now I need to slow down, stop, realise its clear, then pull out and accelerate back up to 70mph to join the M5.

GO GO CARBON EMISSIONS.
