Speeding - caught? damn!

So just coming home I decide to take the dual carriageway back and came off a roundabout with a learner holding up the left lane of traffic, so I was doing about 65mph indicated to get passed the line before the lanes merged to single again.

The dual carriageway is 50 in this section, with the added addition of a speed camera van today at the end (first time I have ever seen one around here). I spotted it and breaked hard but pretty sure it got me. Hands up I was speeding, but goddammit I am annoyed at myself, I didn't go to the gym tonight as I am going on a date...so I blame the girl!

How much is 3 points going to hurt insurance when I move to a faster car? (:p)

How long does it take to get the fine etc? Do I need to inform my insurance?

:(

It wont affect it much if at all really, i have 6 points and i dont find my insurance particuarly expensive.

Don't be so down on yourself. Speed cameras were designed for this very purpose. To catch more or less innocent motorists and turn them into a criminal.

AFAIk if you don't get anything in the post after 14 days then they have run out of time to prosecute you anyway.

See you guys in 16 days, i'm gonna go hide somewhere. I am annoyed, the car infront was ragging it faster than me and then pulled in behind the learner and braked HARD. I carried on :(

In the conditions of sunny day, visability great, no traffic in front of me in the lane and being a dual carriageway... 60-70mph is justifiable :)

My rear end was making buttons today as I came round a bend to see a scamera van sat there. Luckily as I got closer I saw the windows at the back were shut... phew.

Annoyingly the Prius driver in front who had previously been driving quicker than me then proceeded to do at least 10mph less than the limit for the rest of the way

Hopefully you won't get anything :)

If that's where I think it is, I always stick to 50 there because TVP are all over it like a rash. Never seen a scamera van in the NSL bit further up, I wonder why .

It is a horrible feeling but also a lesson that you learn from. I have 3 points for doing 85 on a motorway. There were cars flying past me at the time but as Mr Police man said to me, "It was you i caught". My insurance qoutes are no different whether i declare the points or not.

Don't fret mate - I'm sure Insurance companies see points for speeding as par for the course nowadays what with the constant offensive barrage on the motorist.

I love how they indiscriminately target people with cameras and vans (ie: no traffic cop discretion like there was in the past), but they won't catch people who are swerving or driving silly slow because they are drunk, on drugs, or just plain dangerous :(

Must admit I've developed a bit of a lead foot myself over the past few weeks so I'd better calm it down. Too many muppets doing 55/60 in the 2nd and 3rd lanes etc so I've caned it to overtake and get way in front of them... Is it the whole eco-driving thing kicking in that's causing people to drive like grannies on the motorways?

No difference for my insurance quotes, although its my brother who has the points and he's just a named driver. Although I was told that it wouldn't affect a quote even if it was me who had the points

3 points will have little to no difference on insurance, it is generally 6 points and up. Even at 6 points its not a massive premium more than 3 points.

Speed cameras do work but to place speeding vans in strategic places designed to catch people without giving notice is just unfair.

Recently seen a few hiding on downhills and around bends, apparently tiny signs were up a mile back. Guess they are fund raising catching the real criminals!

Yeah, something that was originally designed for accident blackspots is now being used on open roads to catch people who make errors in judgement that are not inherently unsafe.

Receiving a letter from the police and opening it to see a NIP is a horrible feeling, fingers crossed you don't get one:)

But as said, 3pts doesn't affect insurance on a lot of policies.

If you were caught doing 61 or under (likely if your speedo was reading 65) then you'll most likely get offered a course, so no points.

Oh and I think I just drove past you about 10 mins ago ;)

So... how long till they come off? I heard a rumor that if you have been driving 6 months and get points you get banned? I heard that if you have been driving under 2 years, you get disqualified if I get 6 points?

Anyone shed light on the rumors above, as I have never officially been told about these? Want to correct my mates on it.

I spoke with a few tonight, turns out that about 6 of my friends locally think they have been done by the camera....ouch... that will pay for someone's council house.

Olly, you did... I was taking it very steady ;) I recognised the Halo's and the plate... just been for a drink with a few people from Combe, they needed a lift back so I was designated driver..!

If you get 6 points on your licence in your first two years you will have to re-take your theory and practical tests, that's about it.

First 2 years is probation - get 6 points and you lose your licence. Afaik it is 4 years for points to come off your licence.
