Speeding - caught? damn!

And this course they offer you? is that £150 as rumored by mates...

My dad is insured on the car too, can he claim the points if I was caught doing 61mph+ ? :D (thinking of all scenarios)

Don't be so down on yourself. Speed cameras were designed for this very purpose. To catch more or less innocent motorists and turn them into a criminal.

AFAIk if you don't get anything in the post after 14 days then they have run out of time to prosecute you anyway.

hes a child killer for doing over 50 on a dual carriageway :(

Booner.... NathanE is right, they've turned you into a criminal for such a minor offence of overtaking.

Speeding is so unfair, and this is where a normal squad car wouldnt care (and would probably join you in overtaking before it returned to a single road again).

That's perverting the course of justice, not something I'd want to be getting in to as if you get caught the consequences are a lot worse!

That's a no then..........right, I better get some sleep. I think actually posting on here and talking about it all kinda helps get it out of my system. I can stop stressing now, 14 days and hopefully I get a little course and some time off work :D

Yeah, definatly not worth the risk. If you had 3 points and may get 6 under the 2 year probation it would be an understandable risk, otherwise it is a pointless action.

+1

I know of somebody who got some Jail time for doing such a thing - All for trying to protect his NCB!

I got up earlier today and took it steady on the way to work on another route. The reward of that was both the lack of guilt as I wasn't speeding and also 41mpg! I usually get 28-30mpg...so going to take it steady for a while considering the high price of fuel these days, I can get another 11mpg+ this way :D

I got an SP50 a few years ago now and it's due to be removed this October, it's mad how many years they stay on your license!

It could be a really stupid question, but what if you saw it really really late, then braked and somehow ploughed into the back of the van, and it was proved from skidmarks etc that you were not speeding ?

Epic lulz, but only if everyone survived and was fine.

I imagine whether you were speeding or not wouldn't come into it - you crashed into the back of a van, which is a more serious offence than simply speeding. They'd do you for the same offence as if you ploughed into the back of any other van (i.e. due care and attention probably).

Still not had anything.....is it 14 days or 14 working days? *fingers and toes crossed*

IIRC they have to post it within 14 days (not 14 working days). So it could be a few days after the 14-day deadline that you actually receive it.

Apparently after reading up on the laws, it should be with you in 14 days or it is void. However, this doesn't include the date of the offence. So I have till Wednesday before I can stop biting nails.

As long as they say they posted it within 14 days it's valid (and the records they keep are apparently sufficient evidence of this), allowing for the randomness of Royal Mail and the ineptness of the Police i'd not start celebrating till about 21 days to be 100% sure but it's looking good so far.
