Speeding offence technicality

yes, definately a possibility, all of which adds further proof that speeding is the cause of all evil and someone needs to BRING THAT SQUIRREL DOWN A PEG

or was hit from behind by a squirrel thus propelling the bike much faster than he wanted to go, probably scaring him a lot and causing him to fall off?

In England the court would have to consider this

In Switzerland however

They don't care. They know it was "probably" him going too fast, and convict him anyway.

Switzerland really don't like motorists, especially those who speed.

This chap's lucky they don't put GATSOs in gardens

And if you look closely in the OP's photo, you can just about make out a squirrel

Which lends weight to the 'propelled by a squirrel' defence.

Don't they have to prove that he was his fault though, I mean it is possible that the bike developed a fault and applied maximum throttle as a result the speed limit was broken and the rider was thrown from the bike. I remember a case in England where a guy got off a speeding ticket after it was proved his cruise control had gone nuts. A long shot I know but we don't know all the facts.

That's him proving it wasn't his fault, not them proving it was. Otherwise I could say my throttle spazzed out as I went sailing past the local primary school's gates at 80 at 3pm, please prove otherwise.

This is switzerland, the country where washing your cars on sundays is illegal and all motorsport is banned.

That Telegraph article must be wrong. Generally speaking cyclists are exempt from speed limits on public roads simply because the law doesn't cover them. However, bylaws can be put in place to cover cyclists and this is the case in London's Royal Parks. Police use hand held speed guns to catch speeding cyclists and ticket them. I don't think you can get points, but it's a £30 fine. Having or not having a speedo makes no difference.

On a less funny note the was also the case in the UK of that speeding cyclist who hit and killed a teenage girl, he was fined £2200 and let walk free as the is no such thing as causing death by dangerous cycling under UK law :(

He didn't walk free because there was no law on dangerous cycling. There is existing legislation that allows cyclists to be jailed in such circumstances and it was used twice between 2000 and 2009 to jail cyclists for killing pedestrians whilst cycling on the footpath. There is sufficient legislation in place.

the cannon wouldn't be in shot though.

The bike is. Hence they know the reason he fell off his bike was because he was going too fast.

WHAT.

The reason he fell off his bike was because he was going too fast. If that were the case then everyone going too fast would fall off their bikes.

According to the police he fell off his bike NOT because he was going too fast but because he was trying to go much much slower ;)

What if the bike was doing the speed limit and was hit from behind by a car going much faster? It would be propelled forward at a higher speed than the rider had control of.

That rider missed a trick there I think!

He fell of his bike panicking about the speed camera

he panicked because he was going too fast.

If he had been doing the speed limit, he A) wouldn't have panicked and B) set the speed camera off still even after falling off it ;)
