So you're speeding on a motorway and you're pulled over by a marked traffic unit. The officer tells you that he recorded you doing 97mph. What would you expect the punishment to be?

But yes i seen a episode where a doctor did 97mph and they let him off after scaring him into thinking he lost his licence.

I received 3 points and a £60 fine in exactly this scenario. But it was coming up to 8 years ago.

I can tell you exactly what I would expect for 96mph... I'd expect to be told that it will be either 3 points and a fine or a speed awareness course. I'd expect to leave the country, completely forgetting about it until I returned 4 months later to find the letter to the speed awareness course with the wrong name on it. I would then expect nothing further.

I once got done for speeding in Devon where I was doing 93 in a 70 and the very nice policeman told me in Devon, at that time (1995), that 94 was the threshold for a court appearance and ban.

I'll say court appearance and ban.

I wouldn't expect more than points and fine, although it depends on circumstances I suppose.

I'd probably get him cautioned by his Chief Constable and ensure he was dropped a couple of ranks, maybe some pension pain too.

If it's an empty motorway in good conditions I'd guess 12 points and a big fine (high 3 figures). But I wouldn't expect an instant ban without some other factor making it more reckless than just the speeding.

I'd expect to be bent over and come close to being relieved of my license. I know someone who was very apologetic and was let off with an ear bashing after being tugged at 120 or so though.

97mph on a motorway? 4 years in prison, ban and 200 hours community service when you get out to pay reparations to all the babies you nearly could have killed, maniac! :eek:

Or anything between a stern talking to with no further action to a short ban and a DD depending on circumstances.

I was done many years back for 97 on a dual and got 3 points and 60 notes.
