Speeding Ticket came back and bit me in the arse 3 months on

I visited Aus in 2005 and did a bit of driving while I was there. I stuck to the speed limits eveywhere as I'd been told that the police were super strict on enforcing them.

Anyway me and a mate (a brit who emigrated there) and his missus rented some V6 Toyota saloon and drove it from Adelaide to Uluru. It was weird to think that even after several hours driving along the stuart highway (dead straight road) into the desert, we still had to stick to the speed limit (100km/h?). Anyway since we weren't passing any cars for 30 minutes at a time we decided to max out the hire car and see what it'd do. Though it had a big engine by UK standards it still took bloody ages to wind up to top speed. We were hammering along for miles flat out with the speedo slowly creeping up.

Then out of the heat haze in the distance a car materialises, and it's got lights on the top.

We slammed the brakes on and hauled it down to the legal limit, cacking ourselves and looking all sheepish, and the police car coming the other way just cruised past without stopping. I don't know if they didn't have the radar detector turned on or what - but we got away with it. :)

What are the chances eh, we were right out in the desert and there weren't even any FM radio stations to pick up, and still police there. :D

In my state it is

Zero Tolerance of Alcohol(Must be 0.00 when breath tested)
Top speed allowed is 100kph instead of 110kph
You only have 4 points instead of 12(Or now in my case i now only have 1:eek:)
Always Displaying P plates in the windows unless you are on P2
Nannas Shaking there heads and tutting when you over take them:p

Other states have Curfews and dont let P platers drive cars over a certain power to weight and some dont let them drive turbos other laws but its hard enough trying to keep up with my owns states constant changing P plate regulations and rules.

As much as people may hate me for saying this I think rules like the above are good (if they work). The most dangerous time when driving is just after you have passed and forcing new drivers to drive with extra care is good IMO.
