Speeding ticket (help)

Just pay the fine and take the points. I doubt her (or your) insurance company will really care.

I was running 9 points some time back. 3 SP30s, one of which was for doing 50+ in a 40. It made barely any difference to my premium and I was driving a 2.5L 190HP+ car.

I did get a speed awareness once too for doing 50+ (56 I think) in a 40. All depends on circumstances. That was on a triple lane raised overpass. I doubt you would on a residential dual carriageway.

My GF also had 9 for some of that time and both of our cars were still cheaper to insure with each other as named drivers.

Sorry Im from the states - she was driving on a highway that has 3-4 lanes - normally 70 but they had that errr electronic thing that said 40 ... wasnt residential ... good to know about the insurance; literally I think her last speeding ticket was 20 years ago she said.

:) just fill in the forms asap. I doubt it’ll go to court. Either way it’ll be points and a fine or if you’re lucky a fine and an awareness course. No biggie.

Worst case would be go to court, get a fine and 6 points. It’s 12 before a ban. Though your insurance will be a bit more interested in that.

At worst you'll get 6 points and a fine, it'll make next to no difference to anything although the fine might sting a little.

Hand them a crisp fifty, that'll sort it.

Alternatively pay the fine and tell her not to be a naughty girl again.

She will likely get points too which she'll need to inform your insurance company of, they will increase her premiums as a result.

OR!

They'll give her a speed awareness course and no points but it's fairly unlikely, that's not a few MPH over the limit.
58 in a 40 I highly doubt she'll get a speed awareness course. That's nearly 50% over, not 3-4 mph. Not sure if they even do them in the US though! Suck it up, make sure she pays it and tell her to calm down.

Basically wife was going 58 in a 40 ... was one of those highway slow down board led things and she didnt notice and they stick a speed camera on it.

How about reviewing the dashcam video and showing that the board was hidden behind a lorry so she genuinely didn't see it?

To be honest my wife has a lead foot - would help if I installed this dash cam thats sitting here :) but now I think shell need to slow it down

It's not the lead foot that's the problem, it's the not noticing the massive bright red and white light in front of her showing the speed limit :p

Getting her out of it somehow isn't going to improve her observation skills or lead foot is it ? Tell her to own up to being in the wrong ffs !

Well in the states you can do all these 'weird' things to help get out of tickets (its been awhile since Ive been there and I never had to go through the process) but like talk about their accuracy of their speed cameras or you name it. You go to court etc ... in the states you really dont have speed cameras you have cops sitting on the side of the road with their radar guns - or in their cars. Here seems to be all cameras. (not sure why you guys let the cameras sit there ... but in the states they would probably be shot with a shotgun ... joking aside).

We don't generally have shotguns here. But when they first came out quite a few near me were set fire to. There are too many now. The whole country would be ablaze.

Just fill out the form and hope for a speed awareness course. She’s doesn’t have any points so will make little if any impact on her insurance if she’s does get points.

You can try to do all sorts of "weird" things here as well. However if it does end up going to court, then the judge may take a dim view of you trying to "bend" the law to get out of it...

What does the letter state exactly? A facsimile would help. Generally though its pay a fixed penalty fine (£100) or attend a speed awareness course for a few days usually a long way away (mine was on the other side of the country 200+ miles away and I'd need overnight accomodation) or go to court and argue your case but evidence from the camera is usually irrefutable unless you have something to counter it dashcam or something if you want to contest the camera as faulty etc. From what I understand if its severely over the limit you may simply go straight to court but that might be a police radar trap and not an expert so don't quote me on that - hence the letter would specify. If you don't respond or ignore the letter it will go to court anyway -

Police radar trips do exist but cameras are ubiquitous and the one that got me the local paper reports 3500+ people caught over a few months and if they're getting a £100 fine each well you can work out the economics yourself thats not to say to they don't get vandalized from being spray canned to being pushed over by a truck theres so many of them its a drop in the ocean and the penalties for criminal damage are worse
