So yesterday i got a couple of letters in the post. Opened the first one and it was a speeding fine for doing 39mph in a 30 at 13.34. Opened the next letter and it was another speeding fine for foing 38mph in a 30 at 13.45 on the same road. The road in question has no cameras so it mustve been police with a speed gun stationed off the road. Was aggrieved at one ticket but two in ten minutes from the same spot, is this fair, is it legal, is there anything i can do.

Were you on the same road at those times?

oonly if you can prove in someway they were not visable on the road, for them to photograph you or radar gun you they have to be visable within a 100 yards (i think)

If your lucky maybe you'll get a course for one & points for the other, failing that, invest in scented lube and bend over & take it up the tail pipe.

I could be wrong, but if you argue that it was the exact same journey you can only get done for one of them.

I only say that as I recall some footballer got caught 4 times doing over 100 along the same stretch of motorway, he used the aforementioned loophole via a solicitor and only got done for the one offence.

Worth looking into.

the best solution is not to speed up and down the same section of road twice in quick succession your speedo was probably showing north of 40 on both runs so really there is nobody to blame but yourself.

Your chances of getting out of it are slim assuming all the correct procedures were followed, you could waste ages faffing about trying to weedle out of it or you could suck it up admit you were breaking the law pay your fines take your points and move on.

I agree I think if you can prove its the same time period that you may only get done for one. If its your first offense they might offer a course, though they don't have too.

I think you are also entitled to ask for proof if you dispute it. ie picture evidence, calibration data.

il look into this

They're not supposed to ninja their positions isn't that right? So you should have noticed them anyway from the high vis decals and uniforms at least once.

Too focused on the speed? :p

If I remember correctly if its the same journey / occasion you will only be given points for the most serious offence which will be 3 points.

Whilst it does seem a little unfair, were you not able to spot them? They're usually fairly visible (sure you might have been "done" once, but might have avoided the second. Also, whilst I'm not pro "anti speeding" your speedo would have been showing over 40mph which is somewhat clearly over 30mph :(

I guess you'll just have to ask/argue that it was the same journey - but I fear they'll probably try and make an example of you.

I'd be more annoyed at the fact they didn't pull you over to give you a warning or a ticket there an then, it would have probably prevented the second fine.

My local police force likes to post pictures of themselves on Facebook being proactive with speed guns in known problem areas. Which everyone now knows and slows down for until they get round the corner and then they're off again.

This shows one of the main issues I have with both cameras and radar guns, that they are purely for money making rather than safety.

If safety was the primary concern, then an office with a radar gun would arrange to stop the motorist, give the appropriate fine/whatever, and send them on their way hopefully with a little more caution and attentiveness to their speed.

Radar guns and cameras, with multiple ones on the same stretch of road, are happy to let the motorist continue at whatever excessive speed they are doing and collect the money.

I've wondered before what legal recourse there would be if, for example, someone was clocked for excessive speed by two cameras/radar guns along a road, then a mile further down the road they killed someone due to speed. They are already on record as breaking the road laws twice, yet due to only retrospective action they continued to cause death/injury.

Not excusing speeding, I just think that cameras/radar guns don't actually serve any purpose other than making money - unless you're going to stop drivers who are speeding, give them a stern chat and something to think about, then are you making the roads safer? Sorry, /rant :)
