I know someone who says they have a slow PC (boot time & programme load time mainly). I told them to stick an SSD in the system, install Windows on there and Microsoft Office and it would feel like a brand new PC.....

....I felt pretty confident when I told them this. Now I'm starting to think it might not be the case.

The computer is only used for stuff like excel, word and web browsing so nothing that needs tons of processing power.

It's a 3-4 year old PC, probably a dual core with 2-4gb RAM (I haven't seen it but I think it's just a standard cheap *cough-CON-cough* from PCworld).

So am I right in thinking an SSD would make the computer seem a lot faster and more responsive even though the other components aren't the best?

It would make a huge difference so your advice is correct.

Ram will be very cheap for that aswel- worth looking at howuch the board can take although, four gig should be plenty

Good! I thought it would but for some reason I had this feeling I might be wrong! Yeah, I'd have to check how much he has first and I could always add another 2gb into it.

Thanks for your reply.

As long as the MB has SATA connectors then an SSD will make a big difference.

I wouldn't go spending lots of money on a mega fast SSD though.

I'm pretty sure it would have SATA connectors as it's only 3-4 years old. I guess I'd have to check it's got a one free though. Most MB's come with more than 2 SATA slots though don't they?

I was thinking the Kingston V300 120gb would be a good one @ £73.99?

Some of these low cost PC can be quite far behind current tech, I remember looking at one back for a friend back in late 2010 / early 2011 that came with DDR2 RAM.

So it might be worth just checking as it may be using IDE HDDs.

V300 is currently £63...

it'll be a good upgrade for an older machine.

Where do you see that? Could you link it for me?

Ok, I'll double check first.
